What do you dislike about the product?
Somet times can be a little confused on where to locate features or they require a 3rd party app, admin accounts do not support MFA without the need of a 3rd party app which can cause some issues reguarding smaller users or less tech focused user who require this as part of the UK gov Cyber essentials certification, many paid ooptions have this as a native option. Having this built in with the ability to use Authenticator app out of the box would be ideal

VPN access to our network when required and an extra layers protection for office based users, our set up is all SAAS cloud based however there are items on our netwrok used for product testing that remote users need to access
High level of security due to open source architecture, outstanding performance and scalability
What do you like best about the product?
Pfsense has been our choice for 10+ years. It is highly scalable and fits all scenarios, from home users wanting control over their internet connection to critical applications in the datacenter where hi-availability is paramount.
You want to export OpenVPN configs for clients from the dashboard? Sure! You want to automate configuration with Ansible? No problem either!
We've never encountered a situation where Pfsense lacked a feature, and new features can be easily added through additional packages without licence fees.
The most crucial aspect, however, is that security products like firewalls shall always be open source so that independent researchers may assess and verify the code. All closed-source solutions from the "big players" competitors fail at this critical point by design.
Pfsense. Works. Period.

What do you dislike about the product?
A centralised management solution with a GUI would be a very nice add-on. On the other hand, this might be really unfair to the competitors who may have to file for bankrupcy as it is among the only feature that PFsense does not (yet) cover...
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Protecting security parameters and enabling tricky policy-based routing over several WAN links. Some features were simply not possible with other products.
Excellent FW and Excellent Support 24x7
What do you like best about the product?
Its rock solid! Based on the latest FreeBSD and updated PHP version. Never had a problem, and to top it all, it now features ZFS for multiple boot enviroments!
What do you dislike about the product?
We need more Tutorials on YouTube to get more people up-to-speed and therefore adopt pfSense a lot quicker!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a system administrator, there are many tasks and always less money to accomplish projects. By having pSense, I get peace of mind.
Set it and forget it
What do you like best about the product?
I bought a Netgate device because of the pfSense support and small footprint. And I wanted to run pfSense because I needed more options than a regular router provides plus, I wanted something that would run uninterrupted for months and years without needing to be restarted. Netgate + pfSense provided all for a very competitive price.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't think of any downsides off the top of my head. Maybe the price of the appliances compared to off-the-shell routers? But then again, you are getting better quality hardware IMO.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I don't need to run my VPN on a separate device anymore, which is great, and I can fine-tune my DNS and HDCP settings for each device with absolute control. I can also segregate devices into a guest network which increases my security.
Always reliable, secure and easy
What do you like best about the product?
Open source, highly configurable yet not too difficult to learn
What do you dislike about the product?
Can't think of anything really, maybe a somewhat sluggish GUI sometimes...
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It protects my network and allows powerful configurations for inbound and outbound access rights
pfsense firewall for home
What do you like best about the product?
The best feature is the integrated pfblockerng add-on package. It handles both IP and DNS filtering with a wide range of easy to use customization. I especially like the ability to select from a large number of different IP and DNS feeds to meet my specific security needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you are a non-technical user, adding, setting up and using the more sophisticated network security software add-on packages have a steep learning curve. This is not unique to pfsense in any way.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Besides the basic requirements as a firewall, the ability to provide a fine level of control over ad and tracker blocking features (pfblockerng) makes it a perfect match for my needs.
Pfsense is the corner stone of open source enterprise firewalls
What do you like best about the product?
It is free and easy to anyone willing to apply themselves to and learn. The support is one of the best and the response is prompt.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI and design could be modernized to compete with other same category of firewalls.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sometimes the firewall just won't respond and only had to be rebooted
Secure, effective, and low maintenance firewall solution
What do you like best about the product?
Various plugins of relevant networking technologies.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing problematic using the system; some additional features might be helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Required a firwall and VPN solution for a research network segregated from the corporate network.
You Can Never Have Too Much Power Over Your Network
What do you like best about the product?
The amount of power and flexibility pfSense brings to your network is outstanding. The integrated VPN ability means connecting to my network from the outside is easy and doesn't require additional hardware. The complete control over how packets flow to and from the internet, and even across LANs; means I have control that lets me keep my network running efficiently and securely. If you're used to dealing with just the hardware your provider gives you, pfSense is a significant step up.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve can be a bit steep. pfSense doesn't make any assumptions, and you'll often have to tell it that you want traffic moving across LANs. It can all be a little daunting if you're not used to dealing with actual firewall configurations. But once you get over that hump, you'll find a level of control you didn't think was possible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When my provider decided to add IPv6 to its stack, I found they provided inferior and limited options for routing it. An all or nothing firewall setting with port-forwarding that required you to specify the IP on both sides was a far cry from what it could do for IPv4. Plus they only wanted to route one subnet of the many they offered my connection. No such limitations with pfSense. I also wanted to prevent IoT devices from using external DNS services. pfSense allows me to force all connections to a DNS server to the ones on the local network. It also allows me to specify which IPs from the outside world get routed to which machine; very handy if you have two machines using the same port range and want provider A to hit one machine and provider B to hit another.
pfSense for VPN
What do you like best about the product?
It's been very reliable and stable from the first day I configured and installed it in my home office network.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing I dislike about the product!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I need to have all my equipment show their network presence in a specific city and country. I have two appliances with pfSense installed, one that is resident and the other a traveller.
