How the name is spelled "openSUSE"

A reasonable open source operating system

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Definitely better than Ubuntu because it adds the latest and greatest features.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you are installing openSUSE as the only operating system, this is a good system to have. However, openSUSE is not very intuitive to use with other operating systems like Windows.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use openSUSE for academic research. Because it’s relatively easy to set up and has the latest security features, this is a great choice.

A positive experience using this operative system

  • July 19, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
There is a lot of documentation available.
openSUSE is Stable and you can use it for servers and workstations,
It takes a bit more time to get used to than you may have to with a Linux Mint for instance.
After you have installed it and you have the most important non-free packages installed.
What do you dislike about the product?
It requires technical skills.
Need to know a lot of terminal commands.
Because it's a rolling release distro it requires a good internet speed because it downloads many updates frequently.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A good operative system for workstations very reliable and secure
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Need to know Linux before using it.

The best Linux distribution

  • July 19, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Its handling is very simple, its integration with KDE is excellent, and the compatibility with hardware is great, improving thanks to the inclusion of many new drivers. The support for multiprocessing in the Ext4 file system is its strong point. You can choose between several desktop environments, allowing you to select the ones that best suit our preferences.

It has a good balance for home use, as it works on practically any computer, and server in medium-sized networks, making it ideal for an SME.
What do you dislike about the product?
The start might improve, sometimes it is somewhat slow. It still needs greater stability but is on the right track.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
He is very resourceful both at the user level and professionally, as well as very practical.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of use regarding the installations for 3rd party apps and also the community support that they provide.
What do you dislike about the product?
The cons to this distro that is not sudo base, meaning there is a small learning curve in the beginning if your experience was only debian.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using at a main workstation OS instead of RedHat.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
OpenSude is Linux Distro that is an alternative for a RedHat Workstation. However if you are looking for server Linux Distro then I would recommend CentOS as a free server OS.

It is a very stable and reliable software

  • July 18, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is a very stable software, it is not susceptible to viruses, we use it for the servers, the amount of resources are less that are necessary in relation to the other software, the updates have worked correctly every time they have been implemented
What do you dislike about the product?
The installation is a little complex, and there is not so much technical personnel that knows the platform, also openSUSE has a bad rap for installing a lot of bloat in the form of recommended packages, which often tend to get re-installed even if the user tries to remove them
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Yast is one of the best tools that we have used in OpenSuse, we use it for the administration of the network, and updates, we have installed third party software and the work has been very easy.

There is nothing I dislike, maybe knowing how to handle it like everything in life, but once you learn how to use it, it is one of the best operating systems you can use.

Security, stable, I have no worries about viruses and malware, everything is beneficial with this operating system I have been using.
