Nessus at Providence College
What do you like best about the product?
Nessus Professional has a very easy-to-use interface and requires little technical expertise to operate. Scan scopes are easy to define and results are searchable and exportable.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nessus generates a large amount of false positives, particularly on Linux systems for applications like Apache, Tomcat, etc. It generally only reads the banners, and even if you run an authenticated scan, it often times does not detect patches that are backported by the distribution. This leads to a lot of heartburn when working with server administrators.
On a separate note, Nessus does not have in-application remediation tracking like some other vulnerability scanning platforms.
On a separate note, Nessus does not have in-application remediation tracking like some other vulnerability scanning platforms.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Minimizing "technical debt" is the largest benefit. The institution has not always had an ongoing vulnerability management program, and as such, a large amount of vulnerabilities and other issues had piled up over time. Nessus has allowed us to gain insight on these issues and move towards a more mature process.
Dependable and consistent
What do you like best about the product?
Ability to throttle scanning as to not cause system impacts.
What do you dislike about the product?
Reports could be more flexible. Would like to have greater flexibility for vulnerability management as opposed to leveraging another tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Vulnerability Identification.
network scanner
What do you like best about the product?
Predefined scan profiles. I like tenable plugins, which cover wide area of penetration testing.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not possible to perform scan through VPN. You need to firstly route your traffic through "router" and then use it for Nessus, which is pain :/
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Scanning wide networks to find every missed vulnerability :)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This tool is not suited for beginners in cybersec field. Everybody can set specific hosts and just scan. User need to have appropriate knowledge to know what is he doing and be careful when doing authenticated scan.
It infrastructure scanner
What do you like best about the product?
One of the best tool used to it infrastructure scan tool,Which scans all it infrastructure assets and provide the Vulnerability .
What do you dislike about the product?
It is becoming EOL , it provides many false positive Vulnerabilities. It doesn't have plugins to scan hp-ilo devices . It doesn't scan all the ports. Everytime 443,445 n 22 port should be open to perform scan
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are finding the Vulnerability on servers routers and switch as well as firewall .
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Should provide proper results for Vulnerabilities and false positive Vulnerabilities should be less .
Nessus Vulnerability scanner
What do you like best about the product?
Nessus allows scan for different kinds of vulnerabilities as denials of service, default passwords, misconfigurations. It is supported on a lot of operating systems and platforms. It also has an evaluation trial that helps you to decide if it is good for you or not. I think is great for big companies.
What do you dislike about the product?
It cant manage all scans from one location. So doesn't have centralized management. It doesn't provide roles based access. It doesn’t seem to offer long term solutions and the support it is no so fats.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Vulnerabilities scanner. Protection. Security
Recommendations to others considering the product:
