Overview
Neo4j is a graph database that stores data as nodes and relationships, which makes connected data simple to model and fast to query. Teams use it for recommendation engines, fraud detection, knowledge graphs, identity and access maps, and as a store for AI retrieval. This image gives developers and data teams a ready Neo4j server in minutes, with the browser console open and waiting.
What is included: Neo4j Community 2026.08.1 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with Java, the Neo4j Browser on port 7474 and the Bolt protocol on port 7687 for drivers and tools. Memory settings are tuned for the server. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own neo4j user password, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. Neo4j Community Edition is open source software licensed under GPL-3.0. Neo4j is a trademark of Neo4j, Inc. This image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.
Highlights
- Ready in minutes: launch the instance, open the Neo4j Browser on port 7474 and run your first Cypher query. Neo4j Community and Java are already installed and tuned.
- Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. The neo4j user gets its own password on first boot, so there is no default neo4j/neo4j login to change, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
- Made for connected data: recommendations, fraud detection, knowledge graphs, network maps and AI retrieval, queried with the readable Cypher language.

64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Additional details
Usage instructions
Once the instance is running, open the Neo4j Browser at http://<instance-public-ip>:7474. Connect with neo4j as the username and your instance ID as the password. Applications and drivers connect over Bolt at bolt://<instance-public-ip>:7687 with the same login. You can also connect over SSH with the username ubuntu and your Amazon key pair.
Required inbound ports: 22 (SSH), 7474 (Neo4j Browser) and 7687 (Bolt). For security, allow these ports only from your own IP address or your application servers.
Your instance ID is shown in the EC2 console, for example i-0123456789abcdef0. Every instance sets its own passwords on first boot, so no two instances share a password. Allow two to three minutes after launch for the first-boot setup to finish before you sign in.
Change the password after your first sign-in: run ALTER CURRENT USER SET PASSWORD FROM in the Neo4j Browser, or connect over SSH and run sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_neo4j.sh. neo4j_status.sh in the same folder shows the version and health.
The image serves plain HTTP so it works on a bare IP address. Before using it in production, add your own domain and an SSL certificate, or place it behind a load balancer with HTTPS.
