Professional PDF Processing: Gold-standard document processing powered by Adobe PDF Library and built by PDF experts with decades of digital document experience. pdfRest offers the highest quality results with technology trusted globally by enterprise organizations.
Dedicated and Secure: This version of the popular pdfRest API Toolkit on AWS enables your organization to host private, dedicated EC2 instances of the API Toolkit. The EC2 does not make external calls, allowing you and your team to rest easy knowing your files and data will remain entirely within your AWS infrastructure to ensure you meet compliance with your business and regulatory standards.
Easy and Cost-Effective: Get started quickly with a highly customizable CloudFormation template, or build a bespoke environment with the standalone AMI. Autoscaling is fully supported to automatically spin instances up and down as your workload changes. Only pay for what you use!

You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you run, with no per-API-call charge. All five options run the same toolkit with unlimited API calls; they differ only in compute capacity. c7i.large offers the fewest cores, suited to testing. c7i.xlarge, c7i.2xlarge, c7i.4xlarge, and c7i.8xlarge step up CPU and memory for larger batch and production workloads. Billing tracks measured machine-hours through your AWS account, so cost scales with instance size and uptime. You can run multiple instances and auto-scale to match demand.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as one billable unit on these instances, and are API calls charged separately?
You are billed per hour of EC2 instance uptime, measured as machine-hours through your AWS account. Each running instance accrues charges by the hour. API calls are not billed at all. Every listed instance type includes unlimited API calls, so your cost depends only on instance size and running time.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped, and how does auto-scaling affect my bill?
Software charges apply per running instance-hour. A stopped instance accrues no software charge, though underlying AWS storage may still bill separately. You can run multiple instances at once and add auto-scaling. Each active instance meters its own hours, so cost rises and falls with the number running.
How do the larger instance types differ in what they handle for PDF processing?
All types run the same toolkit with unlimited calls; they differ in CPU cores and memory. c7i.large fits testing. c7i.xlarge handles small-to-medium batch work. c7i.2xlarge, c7i.4xlarge, and c7i.8xlarge add cores and memory for concurrent processing, larger files, and production workloads. Choose based on volume, file size, and operation complexity.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
