Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you choose, with no monthly subscription. The 27 options map to AWS instance families, not software tiers. The t3 and t3a options give you burstable general-purpose compute across micro, small, medium, large, and xlarge sizes. The m5 options give you steady general-purpose compute in larger sizes up to 24xlarge. The c5 options give you compute-optimized capacity up to 24xlarge. Pricing scales with instance size and resources. You can scale up or down by selecting a different instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each option maps to an AWS EC2 instance with a set amount of CPU and memory. Larger sizes give more compute and RAM. You pay per hour the instance runs. The t3 and t3a families offer burstable compute; m5 offers steady general-purpose compute; c5 offers compute-optimized capacity.
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped. Charges resume once you start the instance again.
You scale by selecting a different instance size for the same software. Pricing follows the size you run. This listing supports horizontal and vertical scaling with no monthly subscription, so you adjust capacity as workloads change and pay the hourly rate for whichever size runs.
