You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you run this preconfigured e-commerce appliance on. There is no separate software license fee or term commitment; billing follows your actual usage. The many dimensions all represent AWS instance types across several families. Compute-optimized (c-series), general-purpose (m- and t-series), storage (i-series), and memory (r-series) options let you match processing power, memory, and cost to your store's traffic. Larger sizes (large, xlarge, 2xlarge) cost more per hour than smaller ones (nano, micro, small, medium). You can start small and change instance size as demand grows.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one running hour of a single EC2 instance in the size you pick. Billing follows actual instance-hours with no license fee or term commitment. You also pay standard AWS infrastructure charges for the instance and any attached storage, billed separately by AWS on the same invoice.
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance is running. A stopped instance accrues no software charges. Note that by default AWS instances change IP address when stopped and restarted, and any attached AWS storage may still incur AWS fees while stopped.
You can change the instance size as demand grows. The bundled backup and restore tool saves files, databases, and package changes to encrypted storage, so a server can be restored onto a different instance size. Registering the free Hub account enables this migration and backup feature.

Usage instructions
System initialization
After launch, browse to http://<Public_DNS>/ and complete the first-boot configuration, or connect by SSH using the key pair selected at launch.
Operating system access
Connect using SSH as the Linux user admin with the selected EC2 key pair. Run privileged commands with sudo; this provides full OS-level administration.
Application access
Open http://<Public_DNS>/ in a web browser. The application may redirect to HTTPS after configuration.
