You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you run CoreSpatial Server on. Billing is usage-based, so charges accrue only while an instance runs. The dimensions map to different AWS instance families and sizes, spanning the m2 through m7a series. Sizes range from xlarge up to 16xlarge. Smaller sizes carry fewer virtual CPUs and less memory; larger sizes provide more compute and memory for heavier geospatial workloads. Choose the instance that matches your performance needs. You can scale by switching to a different instance size, which changes your hourly rate accordingly.

What do I actually get running on each hourly instance?
Each hourly rate runs one CoreSpatial Server instance on the AWS EC2 size you pick. The server hosts your geospatial data on a hardened GeoServer build, with spatial database, raster and vector processing, and OGC services (WMS, WFS, WMTS). Larger instance sizes provide more virtual CPUs and memory for heavier data and query loads.
Am I charged when a CoreSpatial Server instance is stopped or idle?
Software charges accrue only while an instance runs. A stopped instance stops the hourly software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS fees, such as storage for the instance volume, since those are separate from the CoreSpatial hourly rate. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly charge.
If I switch to a different instance size, does the new rate apply to everything?
You run one instance size at a time, and the hourly rate matches that size. When you move to a different size, the new hourly rate applies from that point forward. The change is manual — you select and launch the size you want. Prior hours bill at the size that ran them.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Upgrade Notes:
To upgrade your configuration to use Java 17 you must modify the JAVA_HOME variable in /opt/geoserver/conf/geoserver.env to point to /usr/lib/jvm/jre-17. This is an optional upgrade, but recommended for security and performance.
All documentation can be found on the ec2-user's home directory under the relevant SKU's subdirectory. This includes installation, administration, configuration, and cybesecurity related artifacts (SBOM, vulnerability report).

Updated software packages will be released quarterly including all components of CoreSpatial® (GeoServer, Java, Jetty, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, GDAL, etc). This includes regular updates to the most recent stable version of the software provided by the respective open source project. High priority security patches identified in the NIST National Vulnerability Database (NVD) with a CVE score of High or Critical will be released immediately upon availability. In some cases this may include remediations implemented by NGS that limit functionality due to our prioritization of cybersecurity. In these cases, the CoreSpatial® release notes will include detailed explanations with suggested workarounds.
