You pay by the hour for the CentOS Stream 9 Server image bundled with AWS command-line tools. Pricing is not tiered by features. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type you choose to run. Your hourly rate depends on the instance size and family you select. Smaller instances like t2.micro cost less per hour, while large memory, compute, or GPU instances such as x1e.32xlarge or p4d.24xlarge cost more. The software runs the same across all instances. You control your cost by matching instance size to your workload needs.

What do I get for each hourly rate, and what does the software layer add?
Each hourly rate covers one running EC2 instance of the type you select. The image bundles CentOS Stream 9 with AWS command-line tools preinstalled. You pay the software rate for that instance type plus the underlying AWS compute charge. Larger instance families carry a different hourly software rate.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The software rate meters running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the software licence bills active running time.
If I switch to a different instance type, does my hourly rate change automatically?
Yes. Your bill follows whichever instance type is running. Move a workload to a larger family and the matching hourly software rate applies for the hours it runs. Move back down and the rate drops. There is no manual upgrade step; billing tracks the active instance.
