You pay by the hour based on the Amazon EC2 instance type you run. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, from small general-purpose types like t2.nano up to large compute, memory, storage, and accelerated instances such as u7in-32tb.224xlarge. The software price scales with the instance you choose — larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry a higher hourly rate. There is no upfront commitment. Each hour includes NGINX Plus plus F5 WAF for NGINX App Protect Premium. You get L4/L7 load balancing, API gateway, and a web application firewall with layer 7 DoS defense, bot protection, and over 7,500 attack signatures. All features come with every instance size.
The software charge meters running instance-hours only. A stopped instance does not accrue software fees. Note that underlying AWS storage or other resources tied to a stopped instance may still incur separate AWS charges. Billing tracks the hours each instance actually runs.
Instance size changes only the hourly rate, not the feature set. Every size runs the same NGINX Plus data plane and F5 WAF for NGINX App Protect Premium. Larger instances give more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware for higher throughput, but the software capabilities stay identical.

Usage instructions
When a new AMI is deployed for the first time, the latest version of NGINX Plus will be installed, auto-configured and started. NGINX Plus status can then be checked by running: service nginx status, and the NGINX Plus default index page will be accessible on public EC2 instance address. Please use SSH to access your instance for management purposes with the following usernames, for Ubuntu: "ubuntu", CentOS: "centos", Amazon Linux/RHEL: "ec2-user", Debian: "admin". NGINX Plus configuration can be found in /etc/nginx and the documentation is available at https://docs.nginx.com/nginx/ .
