What does one hourly unit like t3.large map to in terms of compute resources?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of that size. A t3.small is the least resourced; t3.medium, t3.large, and t3.xlarge each add CPU and memory. You run the instance size that matches your monitoring workload, and one running instance meters one instance-hour.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges accrue only for the hours the instance runs. A stopped instance does not meter software hours. Note that AWS may still bill underlying storage for a stopped instance, but the software licence counts running time only.
If I move from t3.small to t3.xlarge, do I keep the same monitoring features?
Yes. All four sizes run the same data activity monitoring and user behavior analytics, including real-time activity monitoring, sensitive data discovery and classification, blocking, and dynamic masking. Larger sizes add processing capacity, not extra capabilities. You switch sizes by launching a different instance.
