You pay by the hour for this pre-hardened Windows Server 2022 image, configured to CIS Benchmark Level 1 recommendations. The listing charges a software fee that varies by the AWS EC2 instance type you launch. Each dimension maps to one instance type, spanning general purpose, compute, memory, storage, GPU, and bare metal families in sizes from nano to large multi-core. Larger or more capable instances carry higher hourly rates. You run only what you need and stop paying when you stop the instance. AWS infrastructure charges apply separately from this software fee.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as one billing unit for the hourly software fee?
You pay per running instance-hour of the launched EC2 instance carrying this hardened image. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type. The rate reflects that instance type. Running one instance for one hour equals one billable hour of the software fee, separate from AWS infrastructure charges.
Am I charged the software fee when I stop or pause the instance?
The hourly software fee meters running time only. When you stop the instance, the software fee stops accruing. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage charges for attached volumes, but those are separate from this software fee and billed by AWS directly.
Why do the hourly rates differ across the instance types listed?
Each dimension ties to one EC2 instance type across general purpose, compute, memory, storage, GPU, and bare metal families. Sizes range from nano to large multi-core. Instances with more compute, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly software rates. You pick the instance type that fits your workload.
