This lightweight and secure Rocky Linux 8.6 image is built from the official ISO image, carefully stripped down to include only the essential packages and required AWS software to integrate into the AWS infrastructure (AWS CLI, Elastic Network Adapter & NVMe drivers). This results in a minimal image that is fast to boot, reduces storage requirements, and optimizes system responsiveness. The image is updated with the latest security patches and updates, providing protection against known vulnerabilities and ensuring the stability and reliability of your server environment. Other features: key based authentication with 'rocky' username, cloud-init and SELinux enabled, root login disabled, automatic root disk resize based on the instance volume configuration. Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the Rocky Linux 8.6 image, billed only while an instance runs. Pricing is set per EC2 instance type, so each option in the table maps to a specific AWS instance size and family. General-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage, GPU, and high-memory families are all covered. The hourly software charge applies only while an instance runs. A stopped instance does not accrue this software rate. You may still owe AWS storage fees for attached volumes while the instance is off, but those are separate from the software charge.
The image ships with security updates available at the release date and comes in a minimal installation with cloud-init and SELinux enabled. For image customization or migration help, you contact the vendor directly at their support email. Support and customization requests fall outside the hourly software rate.

Usage instructions
To connect to the VM:
- Use SSH to connect
- Username provisioned inside is: 'rocky'
- Use the SSH key provided at the launch of the instance
- Run 'sudo su -' to get a root prompt

Check the health and functionality of the virtual machine you have just launched:
- Go to your Amazon EC2 console and ensure you are in the correct region
- Select 'Instances' from the left menu and click on the newly launched instance
