You pay by the hour for this software, billed per running EC2 instance. The many dimensions are not tiers or feature levels. Each one maps to a specific EC2 instance type, from small general-purpose sizes to large compute-, memory-, storage-, and GPU-optimized instances. Your cost scales with the instance type you choose and the hours it runs. Larger or specialized instances carry different hourly rates than smaller ones. You select the instance that fits your workload, then pay only for the time it runs. No upfront commitment applies.

What software am I paying the hourly rate for on each EC2 instance type?
You pay for a preconfigured, production-ready Windows Server 2022 image with the Terraform open-source automation tool installed. Terraform lets you define and provision infrastructure using code. The hourly software charge applies per running instance, on top of the underlying AWS compute cost for the instance type you select.
Am I charged the hourly rate when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the instance's disk while it is stopped. Charges resume once you start the instance again.
Why are there so many instance-type dimensions, and how do I pick one?
Each dimension maps to one AWS EC2 instance type, not a feature tier. General-purpose sizes suit routine Terraform runs. Compute-, memory-, storage-, and GPU-optimized types suit heavier workloads. You choose the instance matching your resource needs, then pay that type's hourly rate for the hours it runs.
