AutoMQ is the low-latency, diskless Kafka® running natively on Amazon S3. By completely re-architecting the storage layer for the cloud, AutoMQ delivers a next-generation streaming platform built for modern data architectures.
While maintaining 100% compatibility with Apache Kafka®, AutoMQ provides significant cost savings and exceptional elasticity. Discover a new way to handle real-time data with stateless brokers and shared storage.
Key Features & Benefits
Seamless 100% Kafka Compatibility
AutoMQ ensures end-to-end compatibility with Apache Kafka®, from the wire protocol to ecosystem behaviors. This allows you to:
Seamlessly migrate existing workloads without code changes.
Utilize your current producers, consumers, and ecosystem tools (such as Strimzi, Kafka Connect, and Schema Registry) without modification.
High Performance with Amazon S3
Experience low-latency performance comparable to local disks, despite being a diskless architecture. AutoMQ's innovative Write-Ahead Log (WAL) based read/write path:
Maintains the cost-efficiency and durability of object storage.
Meets strict sub-millisecond latency requirements for critical real-time applications.
Cost Optimization with Zero Inter-Zone Data Transfer Fees
AutoMQ eliminates cross-AZ data transfer fees by writing directly to S3, which is available across Availability Zones. This unique architecture removes the need for expensive replica synchronization traffic, potentially saving thousands of dollars per month.
Instant Scalability
Scale your cluster in seconds, not hours. With stateless brokers, scaling no longer requires time-consuming data copying between disks.
Expand or shrink your cluster capacity on-demand.
Eliminate the need for over-provisioning and reduce wasted idle resources.
Automated Operations with Zero Data Skew
Simplify cluster management with our self-developed Self-Balancing mechanism. This feature:
Continuously monitors partitions and automatically reassigns them in seconds.
Proactively eliminates hotspots and data skew without manual intervention, reducing operational complexity.
Highlights
Saving your Kafka cost: AutoMQ redefines cost efficiency with a cloud-native shared-storage architecture that leverages affordable S3 to replace expensive disks. Our design completely eradicates massive cross-AZ traffic fees and enables rapid elasticity, eliminating the need for wasteful resource over-provisioning. Read on to discover exactly how AutoMQ beats other Kafka solutions on price.
Scaling in Seconds With stateless brokers, scaling no longer requires copying data between disks. AutoMQ enables cluster expansion or shrinkage in seconds rather than hours. This allows true on-demand scaling, eliminating the need for over-provisioning and wasted idle resources.
100% Kafka Compatible: Not Just the API AutoMQ delivers end-to-end compatibility with Apache Kafka®, from the wire protocol to the ecosystem behavior. This ensures you can seamlessly migrate without lock-in risks, while keeping your existing producers, consumers, and ecosystem tools (like Strimzi, Kafka Connect, and Schema Registry) working perfectly.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on the duration and terms of your contract with the vendor. This entitles you to a specified quantity of use for the contract duration. If you choose not to renew or replace your contract before it ends, access to these entitlements will expire.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
AKU (AutoMQ for Kafka Unit) fees cover AutoMQ for Kafka services. Each AKU provides 30 MiB/s write throughput or 60MiB/s read throughput. Customers can calculate the required number of AKUs based on read throughput and write throughput.
This listing uses a single pricing dimension: the AKU (AutoMQ for Kafka Unit). You buy capacity in AKUs under a monthly contract. Each AKU covers 30 MiB/s of write throughput or 60 MiB/s of read throughput. You calculate how many AKUs you need by looking at your expected read and write throughput. As your throughput grows, you add more AKUs. There are no separate charges for partitions or replication. Pricing scales with the number of AKUs you commit to, not with fixed instance sizes or feature tiers.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
How do I calculate how many AKUs my workload needs?
Each AKU covers either 30 MiB/s of write throughput or 60 MiB/s of read throughput. Add up your expected peak write and read throughput, then divide by these per-AKU capacities to estimate the total AKUs required. Higher throughput requires more AKUs.
Does my AKU count cover data storage and retention, or are those billed separately?
AKU fees cover the AutoMQ for Kafka service throughput capacity. Your persistent data sits in S3-compatible object storage, which you pay your cloud provider for directly. AutoMQ does not charge separate partition or replication fees, so partition count remains an engineering choice.
What happens to my AKU commitment if my throughput needs grow during the term?
You add more AKUs as throughput grows. Because brokers are stateless, capacity adjusts to workload demand without moving partition data. Partition reassignment is mainly a metadata operation, so scaling out happens quickly. Your cost scales with the number of AKUs you use.
