You pay by the hour for CentOS Stream 9 running on an Amazon Machine Image, with vendor support included. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each rate is tied to a specific EC2 instance type you choose to run. The many options match AWS instance families for general purpose, compute, memory, storage, GPU, and high-performance workloads. Larger instance sizes carry higher hourly rates than smaller sizes in the same family. You select the instance that fits your workload, and the software charge accrues each hour that instance runs. Stopped instances do not accrue software charges.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
Each rate covers CentOS Stream 9 running as an Amazon Machine Image on the EC2 instance type you pick, plus vendor support. The instance itself sets your compute, memory, and storage capacity. AWS charges the underlying infrastructure separately. The software rate you see here is only the license and support charge.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped or paused?
No. The software charge accrues only while the instance runs. Stopped or paused instances do not accrue software charges. Note that AWS may still bill underlying storage for a stopped instance, but that is separate from this software license fee, which meters running hours only.
How does my hourly cost change if I switch to a larger instance size?
You pay the hourly rate tied to whichever instance type is running. Moving to a larger size in the same family raises the hourly software rate for the hours that larger instance runs. There is no automatic upgrade; you choose the instance, and billing follows that selection each hour.
