You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you run ProVide Server on. The 18 options map to standard AWS burstable instance families: t2, t3, and t3a. Within each family, hourly rates rise as you move up in size, from micro through 2xlarge. Larger instances give you more compute and memory for handling heavier file transfer workloads. You choose the instance type that fits your capacity needs, and billing follows your actual runtime hours. There is no upfront commitment; you pay only for the hours each instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing cover for an instance like t3.large?
One hour equals one running instance of that type. The rate is set by the instance family and size you pick, from t2, t3, or t3a. You are billed for each hour the instance runs, whatever your file transfer volume during that hour.
Am I charged when I stop or pause a ProVide Server instance?
The software charge meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software fees. You may still pay underlying AWS storage costs for the stopped instance, but those are separate from the ProVide Server hourly rate.
What happens to my cost if I move to a larger instance size?
Moving up in size, for example micro to xlarge within the same family, raises your hourly rate. Larger sizes give more compute and memory for heavier workloads. The change is not automatic; you choose the instance type when you launch, and billing follows that choice.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
