You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you choose to run this software. All 21 dimensions bill the same way; they differ only by the underlying compute size and family. General-purpose options span the t2, t3, m3, m4, and m5 families, ranging from small burstable sizes like t3.nano and t2.micro up to larger sizes like t2.2xlarge and m5.large. Compute-focused options come from the c3, c4, and c5 families. Memory-focused options come from the r3, r4, and r5 families. Your hourly rate scales with the instance you select.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The software charge meters running instance-hours. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software rate. Note that stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, which are separate from this software charge.
Each hourly rate covers the software running on one EC2 instance of the family and size you pick. The rate changes with the instance's compute size and family. AWS charges the underlying EC2 infrastructure separately from this software fee.
