You pay by the hour for CentOS 8 with Runtime Guard, billed per running EC2 instance. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each rate maps to a specific AWS instance type you choose at launch. The options span general-purpose (M, T), compute-optimized (C), memory-optimized (R, X, U), storage (I, D), and accelerated (G, P, Trn, Inf) families across many generations and sizes. Your cost scales with the instance you select, so a small instance costs less per hour than a large or metal one. AWS infrastructure charges apply separately from this software rate.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each rate covers the software running on one EC2 instance for one hour of the type you pick at launch. The instance type sets the rate. You pay only for hours the instance runs. AWS infrastructure charges for compute, storage, and network are billed separately.
The software rate meters running instance-hours. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. When you restart it, hourly software billing resumes. Note that AWS may still charge for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but that is separate from this software rate.
Cost follows the instance type you launch. Switching to a larger type applies that type's hourly rate for the hours it runs. There is no tier upgrade or commitment. You can choose across general-purpose, compute, memory, storage, and accelerated families, and change types by launching a new instance.

ssh to the instance public IP and login as 'centos' user using the key specified at launch time. Use 'sudo su -' in order to get a root prompt.
