Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) provides the geographic boundaries and point information for more than 930 statistical regions defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) across the USA & Puerto Rico. A CBSA represents a highly populated core area and adjacent communities that have a high degree of economic and social integration with the core.
CBSAs consist of counties and county equivalents, and are defined in two categories: Metropolitan Statistical Areas Micropolitan Statistical Areas
The Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) product uses County Boundaries as building blocks for CBSAs. Minor Civil Divisions (MCDs) are used to provide correspondence to New England City and Town Areas (NETCAs).
Combined Statistical Areas (CSAs) are built from Core Based Statistical Area (CBSA) boundaries using information provided in OMB Bulletins.
Product is available in a number of GIS and database loadable formats.
This sample data set covers the state of California. This represents a subset of the full products geographic extent. The full commercial offering features geographic coverage of the entire United States.
