You pay by the hour for this hardened RHEL 9 image, billed only while an instance runs. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you launch. Pricing scales with the size and family you choose. Smaller general-purpose types like t2 and t3 sit at one end, while larger compute, memory, storage, and accelerated families rise from there. Metal and high-memory instances carry the highest hourly rates. You select the instance that fits your workload and pay that hourly software rate on top of AWS infrastructure charges.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly software rate on this hardened RHEL 9 image?
You get a pre-configured, security-hardened RHEL 9 operating system image with a STIG console, launched on the AWS EC2 instance type you select. The vendor image includes updates, firewalls, and network protocols. You pay the hourly software rate for that image on top of the AWS infrastructure charge.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software rate meters running instance-hours. When you stop an instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate AWS charges, not the image software rate. You pay the software rate only while the instance runs.
Does switching to a different instance type change my hourly software rate?
Yes. Each dimension maps to one specific EC2 instance type, and each type carries its own hourly software rate. If you launch a different instance type, you pay that type's rate. The rate follows the instance you run, so resizing to a larger family raises the hourly software charge.
