Maritime NDR Ingestion Engineering on AWS

     Info
Successive Digital enables maritime organizations to modernize Noon Data Report (NDR) workflows by building custom ingestion solutions on AWS. Our cloud-native capabilities automate the intake and processing of vessel-reported data, reducing manual workloads and enabling near real-time operational visibility. Using services such as Amazon S3, AWS Lambda, Amazon RDS, and Amazon SQS, we help clients accelerate data availability for voyage planning, emissions tracking, and charter party compliance.

    Overview

Maritime fleets rely on Noon Data Reports (NDRs) to track speed, fuel, ETA, and environmental impact—but data often arrives through fragmented channels and inconsistent formats. Successive Digital engineers secure, scalable AWS-based ingestion pipelines that unify this data for operational and regulatory use.

We support multi-channel data intake—including email-based reports, web form submissions, and system-to-system API integrations. AWS Simple Email Service (SES) captures vessel-submitted emails and stores raw .eml files in Amazon S3. Simultaneously, NDR data submitted via APIs or web interfaces is accepted through Amazon API Gateway and securely authenticated using Amazon Cognito.

Once data is received, Amazon S3 event triggers or Amazon SQS queues activate AWS Lambda functions to initiate parsing and content validation. These functions identify the format (e.g., XML, JSON, or plain text) and route data accordingly. AWS Glue is then used to transform and normalize the data into a standardized schema that aligns with each client’s downstream systems.

Validated data is stored in Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL) for structured access, while raw and processed files are retained in Amazon S3 for traceability. The solution integrates Amazon CloudWatch for monitoring, operational alerting, and full observability into ingestion success, latency, and error patterns. For deployments requiring secure networking, Amazon VPC is used to restrict access to RDS and Glue services.

Through this tightly integrated architecture, maritime organizations can scale NDR processing across fleets, improve data quality, and support analytics and compliance initiatives without altering shipboard processes.

    Key Capabilities

    1. Fleet-Scale NDR Automation Custom AWS pipelines for capturing, validating, and integrating vessel-reported data.

    2. Operational Intelligence Enablement Make voyage performance and emissions data available for real-time analysis.

    3. Compliance Readiness Align NDR processing with EU ETS, CII, and MARPOL audit requirements.

    4. Seamless System Integration Deliver structured data directly into client-side analytics, BI tools, or SaaS platforms.

    Use Cases

    1. Shipping Companies: Replace spreadsheet-based reporting with secure, automated ingestion across fleets.

    2. Maritime SaaS Providers: Power platforms with validated, ready-to-analyze voyage data.

    3. Compliance Teams: Automate data capture for environmental regulation reporting.

    4. Fleet Operations: Monitor real-time voyage status, fuel consumption, and route adherence.

    Highlights

    • End-to-end NDR ingestion workflows are designed and deployed on AWS
    • Maritime-specific architecture accounting for connectivity constraints and reporting variation
    • Proven delivery for voyage analytics and emissions compliance use cases
