Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance size across families like general purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and bare metal. Hourly rates scale with the instance's size and resources, so larger instances cost more per hour. You choose the instance type that fits your workload, and billing follows your actual usage hours. No upfront commitment or fixed term applies; charges accrue only while instances run.

What does one billing unit represent for each dimension?
Each dimension maps to one AWS Arm-based (Graviton) EC2 instance running the platform, billed per hour. The instance type you pick sets the vCPU, memory, and storage you get. You are billed for each running instance-hour on that specific instance type.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or powered off?
Software charges meter running instance-hours only. Fully stopped or powered-off instances do not accrue platform charges. Underlying AWS infrastructure fees, such as attached storage, may still apply while the instance exists. Charges resume automatically once the instance runs again.
Is this pay-as-you-go, or do I commit to a fixed term?
This uses hourly usage-based billing with no upfront commitment or fixed term. Charges accrue only while instances run and stop when you stop them. This suits variable or short-lived workloads where you want to match spend to actual runtime rather than a set contract.

RHCOS is supported only as a component of OpenShift Container Platform 4.18 for all OpenShift Container Platform machines.
RHCOS is the only supported operating system for OpenShift Container Platform control plane, or master, machines.
While RHCOS is the default operating system for all cluster machines, you can create compute machines, which are also known as worker machines, that use RHEL as their operating system.
There are two general ways RHCOS is deployed in OpenShift Container Platform 4.18:
If you install your cluster on infrastructure that the installation program provisions, RHCOS images are downloaded to the target platform during installation. Suitable Ignition config files, which control the RHCOS configuration, are also downloaded and used to deploy the machines.
If you install your cluster on infrastructure that you manage, you must follow the installation documentation to obtain the RHCOS images, generate Ignition config files, and use the Ignition config files to provision your machines.

Storage in OpenShift can present some challenges, such as complexity in the initial setup, latency in distributed environments, and performance limitations depending on the underlying storage solution. Additionally, managing persistence and scalability can be problematic in intensive workloads.

Scalability and resilience of the platform overall, in addition to ensuring the best security standards in the market.
