See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you run this software on. The 21 dimensions map to different Amazon EC2 instance types, so pricing scales with the compute capacity you choose. Smaller instances like t3.nano, t2.micro, and t3.micro suit light workloads. General-purpose options include the t2, t3, m3, m4, and m5 families. Compute-focused c3, c4, and c5 and memory-focused r3, r4, and r5 large instances serve heavier needs. You are billed only for the hours you use, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate cover, and what runs on top of it?
The rate covers the RKhunter software licence plus maintenance support from ATH Infosystems on Ubuntu 26.04. You pay this on top of the standard AWS charge for the EC2 instance itself. Support includes version upgrades, security upgrades, and vulnerability handling.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges meter running instance-hours. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. Underlying AWS storage fees for a stopped instance may still apply separately, but those are billed by AWS, not by this software licence.
Why does the price differ across instance types like t3.nano and r5.large?
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type. The hourly software rate reflects the compute, memory, and size class of that instance. Larger or more specialised instances carry a different hourly rate. You choose the instance that fits your workload and pay that rate per hour.
