Amoeba by Zoorik: Block Storage Cost Optimization for Amazon EBS

Amoeba is block storage cost optimization for Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS). It rightsizes the EBS data volumes of your Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances autonomously, without any downtime, to reduce your Amazon EBS cost. An EBS volume can be made larger, but not smaller. With Amoeba, you pay for the space your data uses, not the space you once provisioned.

For each instance: its EBS cost today and with Amoeba, what Amoeba has saved to date, and every change with its reason. Every figure says where it comes from. Amoeba never shows a made-up number.

• Amoeba works only on the Amazon EC2 instances you pick, and leaves every other instance alone.
• Adding space is automatic. For each instance, you choose whether Amoeba reduces space on its own or waits for you.
• When space is reduced, a volume is removed only once it holds no data.
• Each original EBS volume is kept as a snapshot for 7 days after it is deleted.
• The contents of your files are never sent to Zoorik. Zoorik keeps Amoeba's data on Microsoft Azure (Central India), encrypted at rest and in transit.

• Amazon EC2 and Amazon EBS: Amoeba installs its agent on each instance you pick through AWS Systems Manager, and adds and removes EBS volumes in your account.
• Connect your AWS account once, from AWS CloudShell. A short script creates the AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) role Amoeba uses, and you can remove it at any time.
• Sign in to the Amoeba console with Microsoft or Google.

• Running Amazon EC2 instances on Linux, managed by AWS Systems Manager and built on the AWS Nitro System, with at least one EBS data volume.
• The rights to create an IAM role in your AWS account.
• An instance Amoeba can't take, for example one with too few free volume slots, stays on its own volumes, and the console says why.
• The services that use an instance's data restart when Amoeba moves it onto new EBS volumes. After that, every change runs without any downtime.
• AWS infrastructure charges in your account, such as for the EBS volumes and snapshots Amoeba creates, are separate from this listing, and you pay them to AWS. During the move, you pay for both sets of volumes until the originals are deleted.
