Overview
What CostPulse does
CostPulse answers "where is this cheapest on AWS?" in one API call, with structured JSON an AI agent can act on.
- GET /v1/cheapest?service=ec2&sku=m5.xlarge returns the cheapest commercial region with its price per unit, the most expensive region and the savings percentage between them.
- GET /v1/compare returns one SKU's price in each region you name (or all regions), cheapest first.
- GET /v1/workload?services=ec2:m5.xlarge,rds:db.m5.large returns the cheapest single region for a multi-service workload, with the total per region.
- GET /v1/savings returns the savings of moving a SKU from your current region to the cheapest one.
Where the data comes from
Prices are loaded from the AWS Price List API for 19 services, including EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB and Amazon Bedrock model tokens, and each service is refreshed once a day.
Three ways to connect
- REST with an X-API-Key header, described by an OpenAPI 3 schema (https://costpulse.waltsoft.net/openapi.json ).
- MCP: the tools costpulse___getCheapestRegion, costpulse___compareRegions and costpulse___calculateSavings on the Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Gateway, for Claude, Strands Agents and other MCP clients.
- A2A (Agent2Agent 0.3): the agent card at https://costpulse.waltsoft.net/.well-known/agent-card.json with four skills, one per endpoint.
Who it is for
FinOps engineers, cloud cost optimization platforms, and AI agents that recommend where to deploy, plan migrations between regions or build cost-aware deployment pipelines.
Billing
You pay per successful call on your AWS bill. Errors (400, 401, 404, 429, 5xx) are never billed. Rate limit: 50 requests per second, bursts up to 100.
Highlights
- Cheapest region in one call: price per unit, the most expensive region and the savings percentage across all commercial AWS regions, from AWS Price List data refreshed daily
- Four endpoints: cheapest region, compare chosen regions, price a multi-service workload and savings from moving region, for EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB and Bedrock
- Agent-ready: REST with an OpenAPI 3 schema, MCP tools on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Gateway and an A2A agent card; pay only for successful calls on your AWS bill

Usage instructions
To get started using the remote MCP server, follow the instructions below:
Available Tools This MCP server (Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Gateway) supports the following tools:
- costpulse___getCheapestRegion - Cheapest commercial AWS region for a service SKU. Arguments: service (e.g. ec2), sku (e.g. m5.xlarge), api_key
- costpulse___compareRegions - Price of one SKU across chosen regions. Arguments: service, sku, regions (comma-separated, optional), api_key
- costpulse___calculateSavings - Savings from moving a SKU to the cheapest region. Arguments: service, sku, current_region, api_key
Prerequisites
- An active subscription to this product. Your API key (it starts with mp_) is stored in your AWS Secrets Manager after you choose Set up your account, and is also shown on the registration page.
- Install Node.js and npm (for mcp-remote), or Python 3.10+ (for the Strands Agents SDK).
Authentication The MCP endpoint needs no connection header. Pass your key as the api_key argument of every tool call; replace YOUR_API_KEY with your actual key below. A wrong or inactive key returns "Backend error 401".
MCP endpoint: https://waltsoft-marketplace-gateway-xncyjgs1uh.gateway.bedrock-agentcore.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/mcp
Claude Desktop Edit the configuration file at:
- macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
- Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
Add the below code:
{ "mcpServers": { "waltsoft-costpulse": { "command": "npx", "args": [ "mcp-remote", "https://waltsoft-marketplace-gateway-xncyjgs1uh.gateway.bedrock-agentcore.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/mcp" ] } } }Then ask, for example: "Use costpulse___getCheapestRegion with service ec2, sku m5.xlarge and api_key YOUR_API_KEY".
Strands Agents (Python)
pip install strands-agents mcp from mcp.client.streamable_http import streamable_http_client from strands.tools.mcp import MCPClient URL = "https://waltsoft-marketplace-gateway-xncyjgs1uh.gateway.bedrock-agentcore.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/mcp" with MCPClient(lambda: streamable_http_client(URL)) as mcp: result = mcp.call_tool_sync("call-1", "costpulse___getCheapestRegion", {"service": "ec2", "sku": "m5.xlarge", "api_key": "YOUR_API_KEY"}) print(result["content"][0]["text"])Example tool result
{"service": "ec2", "sku": "m5.xlarge", "cheapest": {"region": "us-east-1", "price_per_unit": 0.192, "unit": "Hrs"}, "most_expensive": {"region": "sa-east-1", "price_per_unit": 0.306}, "savings_vs_most_expensive": "37%", "regions_compared": 29}Rate Limits
- 50 requests per second (bursts up to 100).
- Exceeding returns HTTP 429 Too Many Requests.
- Use retry and exponential backoff to handle limits.
