Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific instance size, and you select the one that fits your workload. Options span the t2, t3, c3, c4, c5, m3, m4, m5, r3, r4, and r5 families, ranging from small burstable instances like t3.nano and t2.micro to larger compute- and memory-focused instances. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates. You are billed only for the hours the instance runs, alongside standard AWS infrastructure charges.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One hour covers the software running on one instance of the size you selected, such as t3.small or m5.large. You are billed for each running instance-hour. Standard AWS charges for the instance and storage apply separately from the software fee.
The software fee meters running time. A stopped instance does not run the software, so no hourly software charge accrues. Underlying AWS storage for the volume may still apply while stopped. Charges resume once you start the instance again.
The vendor provides maintenance support, including version upgrades, security upgrades, and vulnerability handling. Certified engineers are available for issues related to day-to-day use. Contact the vendor for details on how support is delivered for your chosen instance.
