What does one hourly charge cover for a given instance type?
Each hourly rate covers one running EC2 instance of the size you selected, plus the Active Directory 2025 domain controller software and support. The charge maps to one virtual machine. Instance size sets the compute, memory, and storage you receive per hour.
Am I charged when the domain controller instance is stopped or powered off?
The hourly software and support charge applies only while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops accruing that hourly charge. Underlying AWS storage for the instance's disk may still bill separately, since that is an AWS resource cost, not the software licence.
Can I run more than one domain controller for replication and disaster recovery?
Yes. You can deploy multiple domain controllers, each on its own instance. Each running instance bills its own hourly rate for the size chosen. This supports replication between domain controllers and disaster recovery by keeping controllers in the cloud alongside on-premises ones.
