    Reviewed on Jul 02, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
Managing projects is easy, and I can get code insights in the same place. Assembla is highly responsive, and I haven’t experienced any downtime. It also supports multiple integrations, such as Kiuwan or TestRail, which makes it more convenient to use. UI is straightforward so the site is overall easy to navigate
What do you dislike about the product?
The older version of the UI felt outdated
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Task managment and hosting Git, SVN, and Perforce side-by-side

Assembla Modernizes SVN with Managed Reliability and Smooth CI/CD Workflows

    Reviewed on Jul 01, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
What I appreciate most is how Assembla smoothly bridges the gap between the reliability of legacy systems and modern development practices, without adding infrastructure overhead. Because it’s a fully managed cloud solution, it removes our server maintenance burden entirely. That lets our engineering team stay focused on building the product instead of handling administration, which helps reduce our Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) while still ensuring enterprise-grade uptime.

On the technical side, Assembla stands out by treating SVN as a first-class citizen rather than a tool that’s being left behind. It brings key modern workflows—like Pull Requests, advanced locking, code reviews, and shelving—directly into the SVN ecosystem. As a result, we can adopt agile CI/CD practices and collaborate efficiently, without taking on the major risk, friction, and expense of migrating complex, large-scale repositories to Git.
What do you dislike about the product?
While the core infrastructure is highly reliable, the technical documentation for advanced configurations and API integrations doesn’t have the depth I’d expect from an enterprise tool. When our DevOps team tries to build more complex automations or integrate Assembla closely with modern CI/CD pipelines, the documentation often isn’t detailed enough to guide us end to end. As a result, we sometimes end up relying on trial and error, which adds unnecessary friction and slows down our ability to scale technically.

From a team management standpoint, the onboarding experience for new developers could also be much stronger. The platform would benefit from interactive tutorials and a more structured, clearly maintained knowledge base. Right now, getting new hires up to speed on Assembla’s specific SVN workflows takes more internal training time and effort than a modern SaaS platform should require.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The primary problem Assembla solves is the significant operational risk and financial burden of maintaining on-premise SVN infrastructure, or being pushed into a premature migration to Git. For organizations with massive, binary-heavy repositories and complex access controls, moving to a distributed system is often technically unworkable. Assembla fills that gap as a fully managed cloud solution. The immediate business impact for us has been a major reduction in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO): our team no longer spends time and budget on server maintenance, backups, or uptime monitoring, which lets us focus resources on core product development.

On the technical side, it addresses the workflow stagnation that can come with legacy version control. Historically, sticking with SVN meant missing many modern collaboration capabilities, which created friction and bottlenecks around code review and deployment. Assembla mitigates this by bringing modern practices—such as Pull Requests, advanced locking mechanisms, and continuous integration workflows—directly into the Subversion ecosystem. The operational benefit has been genuinely transformative: our engineering team can run agile, modern CI/CD processes while keeping our foundational codebase centralized, secure, and stable.

Excellent All-in-One Collaboration with Source Control, Wiki, Tickets & Access Control

    Reviewed on Jun 30, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
Excellent workflow for team collaborations and for controlling guest/contractor access to projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
A little daunting at first because it's got a lot of functionality (pretty much does everything from source code control to WIKI and tickets along with a Kanban board). Once you get to grips with it it's pretty awesome.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Private repo and ticket control with project management and collab functions.

Came for managed Perforce hosting, stayed for the project management integration with commits

    Reviewed on Jun 30, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
We moved to Assembla primarily for managed Perforce hosting, and that alone was worth it. Zero downtime, rock-solid reliability, and none of the operational overhead we had before. No more internal DevOps time burned on keeping the infrastructure alive.

But the real surprise was discovering that Assembla also has a full project management platform built in. Tickets connect directly to commits, so the entire workflow lives in one place. When a developer closes a commit, the corresponding ticket moves. That kind of integrated workflow sounds simple, but it eliminates an enormous amount of manual status updates and cross-tool confusion.

We now run sprints, manage tickets, and host our Perforce repositories all inside Assembla. The context we used to lose jumping between tools stays intact.
What do you dislike about the product?
Onboarding materials inside the platform could be deeper. New team members need time to discover how everything connects. More guided setup flows would accelerate that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Reliable managed Perforce hosting and the disconnect between source control and project management.

Before Assembla, we had internal DevOps effort going into maintaining our Perforce infrastructure. Moving to Assembla removed that overhead and gave us a much more reliable setup, with no downtime or infrastructure distractions.

The bigger benefit has been having Perforce, tickets, commits, and sprint management in one place.

Assembla: Clean, Powerful Project Management with Seamless Integrations

    Reviewed on Jun 24, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
Assembla provides a flexible and powerful project management experience without feeling overwhelming. The user interface is clean, modern and practical (including a popular dark theme option), making it easy to navigate repositories, tickets, milestones, and collaboration features without a steep learning curve.
The integrations are also a major strength. Assembla fits well into existing development workflows and helps teams keep project management, source code, and communication connected in one place.
Performance has been very reliable in day-to-day use, with tools that feel responsive and capable even when managing more complex projects.
For us, Assembla offers strong value because it combines version control, task tracking, collaboration, and project visibility in a single platform. This reduces tool sprawl and helps teams stay organized.

Support and onboarding are straightforward as well, making it easier for new users and teams to get up to speed quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Assembla is intuitive, especially for users who are already familiar with project management tools, but the initial setup process could feel a bit more guided. An interactive product tour or setup recommendations based on team size and use case would make it easier for new teams to get started quickly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Assembla helps us manage work across both engineering and cross-functional teams in one organized place. We use it for sprint planning with engineering, but also for marketing projects, web team deliverables, release items, design-related tickets for product UI/UX and web development, and product management tracking for PRDs.

The biggest benefit is visibility and consistency. Instead of having different teams track work in separate systems or informal channels, Assembla gives us a shared place to define tasks, assign ownership, track progress, and connect related work. It helps keep engineering, product, marketing, design, and web teams aligned, especially when multiple deliverables are tied to the same release or project.

It also makes it easier to manage priorities and follow-through. Everyone on the team can easily see what is in progress, what is blocked, what needs review, and what is ready to move forward. That helps reduce missed handoffs, keeps projects moving, and gives everyone a clearer view of how work is progressing across teams.
