This AMI provides a ready-to-use Java 17 development and runtime environment built on Amazon Linux 2023. It comes pre-installed with Amazon
Corretto 17, Amazon's no-cost, production-ready distribution of OpenJDK, ensuring long-term support and security patches directly from
AWS.
Amazon Corretto 17 passes all TCK (Technology Compatibility Kit) tests, guaranteeing full Java SE 17 compatibility. It includes significant
improvements such as sealed classes, pattern matching for instanceof, records, text blocks, enhanced switch expressions, and a stronger
default encapsulation of JDK internals. Combined with modern garbage collectors (ZGC, Shenandoah) and the performance, security, and
stability of Amazon Linux 2023, this AMI eliminates the time spent on environment setup and JDK configuration.
Ideal for teams building cloud-native Java applications, migrating from Java 8 or 11 to the latest LTS, replacing Oracle JDK, or running
modern frameworks like Spring Boot 3, Quarkus, and Micronaut that require Java 17 as the minimum baseline.
Highlights
Java 17 LTS Runtime; Pre-installed Amazon Corretto 17 with long-term support, quarterly security updates, and full Java SE 17 TCK
compliance, ready to deploy out of the box.
Built on Amazon Linux 2023; Leverages the latest Amazon Linux with enhanced security defaults, SELinux permissive mode, and
deterministic updates via versioned repositories.
Zero Licensing Cost; Amazon Corretto is free to use with no licensing fees, providing a direct drop-in replacement for Oracle JDK 17
without vendor lock-in.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you run, with software support from ThinkCloud included. The 14 options map to AWS T3 and T3a general-purpose instance families. Sizes range from nano and micro up through small, medium, large, xlarge, and 2xlarge. Larger sizes carry more compute and memory, so hourly rates rise as you move up. The T3 and T3a families offer similar sizing steps, letting you match the processor family to your workload. You select one instance size and are billed only for the hours you use.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one billing hour cover, and am I charged when the instance is stopped?
You pay for each hour the chosen T3 or T3a instance runs. The software charge meters running time only, so a fully stopped instance stops accruing software fees. Underlying AWS storage or other resources may still bill separately while the instance is stopped.
What is the difference between choosing a T3 versus a T3a instance size?
Both families provide general-purpose compute across the same sizing steps, from nano up to 2xlarge. They differ in the underlying processor family. You select one instance size, matching the family to your workload, and pay the hourly rate for that size.
What is included with the hourly rate beyond the running software?
The rate bundles the Amazon Corretto Java 17 build on Amazon Linux 2023 with software support from ThinkCloud. You run one instance size and are billed per hour of use. ThinkCloud provides the support component; reach them at support@thinkclouds.ai for assistance.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
