Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the Ubuntu 24.04 software running on the EC2 instance you choose. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so pricing scales with the compute size and family you select. Options range from small burstable instances to large memory-optimized, compute-optimized, storage-optimized, and GPU-accelerated types. You pick the instance that fits your workload, and the hourly rate reflects that instance's resources. There are no upfront commitments; billing is usage-based and stops when you stop running the instance. The software itself carries no per-seat or per-core licensing fee.

Each dimension maps to one running EC2 instance of that type, billed per hour. You pay for the Ubuntu 24.04 software layer on that instance. The rate reflects the instance size and family. The operating system carries no per-seat or per-core license fee.
The hourly software charge applies only while the instance runs. When you stop the instance, the software billing stops. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply separately, but the software meters running time only.
Each instance type is its own dimension with its own hourly rate. Moving to a larger type means you launch that dimension and pay its rate. There is no automatic tier jump; you choose the instance, and the hourly cost reflects that instance's resources.
