Sphere enables enterprises to securely package, manage, and distribute governed datasets to AI teams with built-in access controls, compliance automation, and licensing workflows.
Sphere is a cloud-native data-distribution platform that enables enterprises to securely package, manage, and deliver high-value datasets to AI teams. With granular access controls, automated compliance workflows, usage analytics, and licensing management, Sphere supports safe and scalable data sharing across cloud environments.
The Challenge
Enterprises hold valuable datasets that AI teams need for model training and development. However, sharing this data securely - while maintaining compliance, enforcing usage policies, and managing commercial licensing - remains complex and risky without purpose-built tooling.
How Sphere Works
Sphere acts as a governed marketplace between enterprises and AI labs, enabling organizations to license their data on their own terms while maintaining full control over access and usage.
Key Capabilities
Secure Data Onboarding: Connect AWS storage and ingest datasets with governance-ready metadata, ensuring data is properly cataloged and protected from the start. Granular Access Control: Enforce permissions, usage policies, and auditability for both internal and external AI teams. Define exactly who can access what data and under what conditions. Compliance Automation: Built-in workflows for policy enforcement, data lineage tracking, and audit logs reduce manual compliance overhead and minimize risk. Dataset Packaging: Create governed, license-ready dataset bundles specifically designed for AI development workflows. Distribution and Licensing: Publish datasets to AI teams and manage commercial licensing directly through the Sphere platform. Enterprises set their own licensing fees and terms. Usage Analytics: Monitor dataset consumption, access patterns, and compliance signals to maintain visibility into how your data is being used.
Benefits for AWS Customers
Accelerate AI Development: Provide AI teams with governed, ready-to-use datasets that eliminate data preparation bottlenecks. Reduce Compliance Risk: Automated policy enforcement ensures data sharing meets regulatory and organizational requirements without manual intervention. Simplify Data Licensing: Manage commercial distribution and licensing workflows in one platform, turning data assets into revenue streams. Native AWS Integration: Integrates with AWS storage and identity systems for seamless deployment within existing cloud infrastructure. Enable Secure Collaboration: Share data safely with internal teams and external partners through governed access controls and audit trails.

AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on the duration and terms of your contract with the vendor. This entitles you to a specified quantity of use for the contract duration. If you choose not to renew or replace your contract before it ends, access to these entitlements will expire.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
Pricing is organized by the size of the dataset you scan. You pay per single scan, and the rate depends on which size band your dataset falls into. One band covers datasets up to 500 GB. A second band covers datasets from 500 GB to 5 TB. A third band covers datasets over 5 TB. These are not tiers you subscribe to. Instead, you choose the scan option that matches each dataset's volume. Each scan is billed as a unit, so costs scale with how many scans you run and how large each dataset is.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as one scan for billing purposes?
A scan is a single pass over one dataset. You pay for each scan based on that dataset's size band: up to 500 GB, 500 GB to 5 TB, or over 5 TB. Scanning the same dataset again counts as another scan and bills separately.
Which size band applies if my dataset sits near a boundary, like exactly 500 GB?
The band is set by the dataset's total volume. A dataset at or below 500 GB falls in the first band. From 500 GB to 5 TB uses the second band. Anything over 5 TB uses the third band. You pick the option matching each dataset's size.
Does licensing the underlying data cost extra, separate from the scan charge?
The scan dimensions bill per single scan by dataset size. Licensing data through the marketplace is a separate transaction. Licenses grant perpetual usage rights, and ownership stays with the rights holder. For specific license pricing on a dataset, contact the vendor.
