This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for patching the operating system and the maintenance provided by Kurian.
Postfix is a free and open-source mail transfer agent (MTA) that routes and delivers electronic mail. As an SMTP server, Postfix implements a first layer of defense against spam bots and malware. It replaces the typical uses of sendmail. In a public cloud environment, the usual requirement is to have a MTA for the applications to send out emails using the corporate email infrastructure. A Postfix server can be configured to do that. This AMI has the latest, stable build of Postfix Mail Server installed on the target operating system with latest patches applied. Kurian has released pre-configured software applications such as Wordpress, Jenkins, databases, LAMP stack, Ansible, DevOps tools, and monitoring applications that are widely used by system administrators and DevOps engineers. For selected Linux distributions hardened images based on CIS benchmark are also available. The Kurian AMIs are built following official installation steps so you do not need to learn any custom procedures if additional configurations need to be done.
This AMI has been packaged by Kurian using license free community versions of the software applications included for the ease of the deployment and implementing operational best practices. All the trademarks mentioned are owned by the respective companies and groups, and Kurian is not affiliated to any of those entities contractually unless that is indicated specifically as part of this statement.

Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. Pricing is not tiered by feature. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance size, and your hourly rate follows the instance you select. General-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, GPU, and bare-metal instance families are all listed. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates because they provide more compute and memory. You run the same Postfix SMTP mail server across every option. Pick the instance that fits your expected mail volume and workload, and billing accrues only while the instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each dimension maps to one running Amazon EC2 instance of a specific type. You pay the hourly rate for that one instance while it runs. The instance type sets how much compute and memory you get. The same Postfix software runs on every instance type you can choose.
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. When you stop the instance, hourly software billing stops. Underlying AWS storage fees for the volume may still apply while stopped. Note that on some Linux versions the Postfix service must be started manually after the instance boots.
You launch a new instance of the size you want, then move your Postfix configurations to it and restart the service. In-place upgrades are not recommended for production. Your hourly rate follows whichever instance type is running. Stop the old instance to end its billing.

Usage instructions
- Spin up new instances using one-click from AWS console or aws cli options as your infrastructure provisioning process requires.
- When an EC2 node is spun up from this AMI, the Postfix service would be up and running port default port 25.
- SSH into the new instance as user ubuntu to perform additional configurations.
