You pay by the hour for a hardened Ubuntu 24.04 LTS image configured to the Level 2 Benchmark. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, and you pick the one that matches your compute needs. Options span small general-purpose instances up to large memory-, compute-, storage-, and GPU-optimized types, plus bare metal. Your hourly software rate scales with the instance size and family you select. You run the image only when needed, so charges accrue based on actual usage hours.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate cover, and what am I billed separately for?
The hourly rate covers the hardened Ubuntu 24.04 LTS software license for the instance type you select. Standard AWS infrastructure charges for the underlying EC2 instance, storage, and data transfer bill separately through AWS. Both appear on your AWS invoice.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. Fully stopped instances do not incur the hourly software fee. Underlying AWS storage for the stopped instance may still apply, but the software meters running hours only.
Why does the hourly price differ across instance types like t3.micro and p5.48xlarge?
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type. The software rate scales with the size and family you pick. Small general-purpose types carry a lower hourly rate. Larger compute-, memory-, storage-, GPU-optimized, and bare metal types carry higher rates. You choose the type that fits your workload.
