ARCUS Single Cache (Dev.) is a light version of ARCUS Cache Cluster. It supports one-click deployment where you can experience the basic features of the ARCUS Cache Cluster.
ARCUS is an open-source in-memory Cache Cluster based on memcached. ARCUS supports collection data structure (List, Set, Map, B+tree) for storing/retrieving multiple values as a structured form in addition to the basic Key-Value data model of Memcached. It was implemented as an elastic cache cluster by using ZooKeeper to provide horizontal scale-out, where nodes can be added/removed on the fly, and with a fault-tolerance feature, it detects failed nodes and automatically removes them. ARCUS provides remote caching services to multiple applications while reducing the load to a database by caching and servicing hot-spot data.
ARCUS Single Cache (Dev.) consists of a single node and supports one-click deployment to experience the basic features of the ARCUS Cache Cluster. The current configuration of ARCUS Single Cache (Dev.) supports only 250MB memory and 1024 client connections.

Each option maps to an AWS EC2 t2 instance: nano, micro, small, medium, or large. These sizes step up in compute capacity (vCPU and memory). The instance size you pick sets the hourly infrastructure cost. The ARCUS Single Cache (Dev.) software itself carries no license charge.
Am I charged when the EC2 instance is stopped or paused?
The software is free, so no license charge accrues at any time. Hourly costs come from the underlying EC2 instance. A fully stopped instance does not accrue compute charges, but attached storage may still bill through AWS. Running instances accrue compute charges each hour.
Do I need to install the software myself, or does it run automatically?
You install and run ARCUS Single Cache (Dev.) on the EC2 instance you launch. After the instance is set up, you configure a client using the instance IP address and a service code. The setup steps are described in the vendor's user guide.
