What resource do I actually get for the hourly charge on each dimension?
You get a preconfigured Redis appliance running on one AWS EC2 instance of the type you select. The hourly rate covers the software license for that single running instance. Each dimension maps to one instance type, so the compute, memory, and storage you receive depend on the EC2 size you launch.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when my instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge applies only while the instance runs. If you stop the instance, the software fee stops accruing. Note that AWS may still bill underlying storage, such as attached volumes, while the instance is stopped. The software license meters running time only.
If I need more capacity, do I pay more per hour or add separate instances?
There is no single scaling dimension. You raise capacity by launching a larger instance type, which carries a higher hourly rate, or by running additional instances that each bill separately. The software itself is the same across all types; you choose the instance size to match your workload.
