Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the software running on Windows Server 2022, and your rate depends on the EC2 instance type you choose. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, from small general-purpose types up to large memory, compute, storage, and GPU-optimized machines. Pricing scales with the size and capability of the instance. Larger instances offer more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware and carry higher hourly rates. Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each hourly unit maps to one running EC2 instance of the type you select. The rate covers the NFS file server software on Windows Server 2022. AWS charges for the underlying compute and storage apply separately. You pick the instance size that matches your file-sharing needs.
The software rate meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing software charges. AWS may still bill for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the software licence counts active hours. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Two charges apply for the same running hours. One is the hourly software rate tied to your chosen instance type. The other is the standard AWS charge for that instance and its storage. Both accrue while the server runs and appear on the same invoice.
