InterSystems®, a creative data technology provider dedicated to helping customers solve their most critical scalability, interoperability, and speed problems, offers its market leading InterSystems OMOP service through the AWS Cloud Marketplace.

InterSystems OMOP offers a light-weight, cloud-based data pipeline and management solution combining the standard Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) of EHRs with InterSystems out-of-the-box transformation to the CDM and a Software as a Service OMOP repository. With this data, you can also take advantage of the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) community and tools to further enhance your research agenda.

Built on InterSystems IRIS for Health, InterSystems OMOP supports large-scale clinical research and patient data management with:

    • Efficient, Scalable Access to EHR Data: InterSystems OMOP uses the standard Bulk FHIR capabilities of your EHR(s) to update your OMOP repository with newly eligible patient records as often as nightly.
    • Rapid deployment for OHDSI environments: Spin up an OMOP repository and leverage the OHDSI tools, all built on InterSystems IRIS for Health, delivered in minutes in an AWS cloud environment.
    • Timely Data for Trial Recruitment: Frequent data updates allow clinicians and researchers to identify and recruit potential trial participants more rapidly. Reaching out to candidates immediately after care may increase their willingness to participate.
    • Out-of-the-Box EHR to Research Transformation: The no-code data pipeline provides standard mappings from FHIR to the OMOP CDM to transform EHR data into research-grade information and lower your ETL maintenance costs.
    • Continuous Data Quality Monitoring: Data quality dashboards and summary metrics ensure that problems with data quality can be identified and corrected at the source in a timely manner.

    Key features include:

    • Automatically convert and refresh EHR data into OMOP daily, without the need for complex ETL development.
    • Utilize the widely adopted Bulk FHIR standard by EHR vendors.
    • Quickly deploy an OMOP environment with capacity based subscription pricing.
    • Ensure security and regulatory compliance by leveraging cloud vendor best practices.
    • Utilize a data quality dashboard before data transformation to detect and monitor data quality.
    • Enable incremental data refresh for only those patients with new data.
    • Out-of-the-box availability of common terminology mapping to OMOP ontology with support for local terminology mapping.
    • Common FHIR resources are mapped to OMOP out of the box.
    • Integrate IRIS as a new OMOP database option for OHDSI tools as well as sending data to existing OMOP repository.
    • Option to support advanced patient privacy protection.

The pricing shown is a representative pricing for a typical study configuration. Actual contract pricing is available via private offering.

What do you like best about the product?
the practicality of coding, in addition to the integration with different parts of the system with their different purposes, which interconnect in a beautiful way. In a general perspective, the plataform UI is good and easy to understand. Although, sometimes, when there's a need to search for a feature, it's hidden very deep. Fortunately, it is been fixed with the new AI.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unfortunately, Studio is not updated to the present day.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

    What InterSystems IRIS really is

What do you like best about the product?
in my opinion is kind of a beast, its fast a hell compared to other alternatives and it's come to be more dominant when you are going into scaled things up like crunching huge piles of data or running transactions and doing some real-time analytics, its keep going and had good stability features
the additional components like FHIR and HL7 make it really useful for some of missions and play nice Togher without make you go crazy, it's really flexible system and you can choice to store data in all sorts of ways, from SQL to document without being coupled to only one way, the interface is pretty clean and have brilliant documentation, it's easy to use and easy to implement, and for the developers is a really good "framework" like to manage and scale data in daily basis, the integration of IRIS with another frameworks or languages is great, in the latest versions they add the python support and its open the opportunities to even make and run AI models on IRIS platform
What do you dislike about the product?
first things first, the main languages, is not comfortable like a traditionally languages, like Object Script is not something you found as Java or Python in the developers community, but its nice language, had a lot of "cool" ways to do stuff, the documentation is huge and good source for data but it's really easy to get lost in it, IRIS is NOT cheap at all, its serous platform with a price tag to match, and the hardware you need to manage to perform it like it's should is not an affordable one
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Let's keep it simple, we worked on the financial area of the company, to manage an records of all of our clients and all of our database, all the transactions as a growing business with a millions of invoices and transactions and make it really fast to manage is really crazy, like building a dashboard from our simplest data can take it to load a one-hour or two in tadeonal db. but in cache and IRIS its can take 20 seconds, so as a backend for our services its really helping out to be there when the client needed us, like fast analyzing sells, fast dashboards, fast transactions between screens, it's not simple when it's come up to millions of records is not a simple business task.

    Bridging Systems with InterSystems IRIS

    Reviewed on Aug 10, 2025
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
What I really like about InterSystems IRIS is how fast and reliable it is. It can handle huge amounts of data and transactions without slowing down. I also love that it’s flexible; you can use SQL, NoSQL, object storage, or even work directly with its unique “globals” all in the same system. The built-in tools for connecting different systems (like HL7 and FHIR in healthcare) are a big win, and having analytics built right in means you can get insights from your data without a lot of extra work. As a developer, I appreciate that I can use different programming languages, ObjectScript, Python, or Java or even mix them depending on what the job needs. And above all, it’s dependable, which is essential for systems that can’t afford downtime.
It is very simple to use and administratively friendly.
The customer support is great often responded within a day.
Based on my frequency of use, it is very reliable and developer-friendly.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main challenge with IRIS is that it takes some time to learn, especially if you’ve never worked with ObjectScript or globals before. Some of the older tools for managing and developing on it feel a bit outdated compared to newer software environments. The licensing can be a bit complicated and may be pricey for smaller projects or startups. The community is helpful but smaller than big open-source platforms, so finding certain answers can take longer. And while the documentation covers a lot, some advanced features could use simpler, real-world examples to make them easier to pick up.
The ease of implementation and Documentation for certain integration scenarios can be complex for beginners
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is solving the maintainance or building a complex database structure and also helping with its robust ability

The ease of seeing the messages and understanding the entire flow
What do you dislike about the product?
The connections on the portal, when clicking on a class, should show the entire flow, not just those that connect with that class.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Understand the flow of the projects and identify where there are bottlenecks and problems

InterSystems IRIS: Powerful, but with barriers to adoption and learning

    Reviewed on Jul 24, 2025
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I really like the various functions when doing the SELECT, I think it's great how the SELECTS work in the cache, so that when you make a query, the next query is much faster. I also like having an interface for creating namespaces and dealing with various things in IRIS.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like that knowledge about IRIS is so little disseminated; there is a lack of community, so there are problems for which we can easily find answers on the internet, and the IRIS documentation is quite poor compared to other technologies like Laravel, for example, which provides various examples and ways to use it. The IntelliSense also doesn't work very well because it doesn't give suggestions on what to use and explanatory suggestions on how to use it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest problem that IRIS solves today, as I see it, is the enormous capacity to work with a large volume of data.
