The t2 and t3 families cover burstable general-purpose workloads, from nano and micro up through 2xlarge. The m3, m4, and m5 families offer balanced general-purpose compute at the large size. The c3, c4, and c5 families target compute-focused work, while r3, r4, and r5 cover memory-focused work. You select the instance that fits your workload and pay only for the hours it runs.

What resources do I get when I select an instance dimension like m5.large or c5.large?
Each dimension maps to one AWS EC2 instance running the software for one hour. The instance type sets your CPU and memory. Burstable t2 and t3 types share CPU credits, while m, c, and r types provide fixed general-purpose, compute-focused, or memory-focused capacity. You pay per running hour.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Note that underlying AWS storage or other resources tied to a stopped instance may still incur separate AWS fees, but the hourly software rate applies only while the instance runs.
Do I pay a flat platform fee on top of the hourly instance charge?
No flat platform fee is listed. Billing is usage-based, so your cost reflects the hours each selected instance type runs. Running a larger or more capable instance raises the hourly rate. Running more instances at once adds each instance's hours to the same invoice.
