What does one hourly unit map to when I run MariaDB Server on Ubuntu 22.04?
Each dimension maps to one running EC2 instance of the named type, billed per hour. You pay for one instance-hour each hour that instance runs. Larger instance types carry more compute, memory, and storage, so the hourly software rate rises with the instance size you pick.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes while the instance is stopped, since those charges are separate from the software licence.
How do the software charge and the AWS infrastructure charge combine on my bill?
Two charges apply together for each running hour. One is the hourly software rate tied to your chosen instance type. The other is the standard AWS compute charge for that same instance. Both scale with the instance size and appear on the same invoice.
