    Deployed on AWS
Stratus is managed cloud infrastructure for digital forensics labs. It deploys pre-configured Windows, Linux and macOS forensic workstations into the customer's own isolated AWS environment, accessed through any modern browser with enterprise SSO (OIDC). Investigators use the forensic tools they already license, such as Magnet, OpenText, Cellebrite or Autopsy. Evidence stays in the customer's account, in the AWS Regions they choose, preserving chain of custody and jurisdictional control; WesDx never has access to case data. One interface manages multiple isolated environments by team, case or jurisdiction, with role-based access, audit trails, session recording, real-time cost monitoring, right-sizing recommendations, and idle shutdown that recognises active processing. WireGuard VPN connects on-premises lab equipment for hybrid operation. WesDx handles provisioning, patching, monitoring and backup configuration.

    Overview

Digital forensics labs are stretched by growing caseloads, fixed budgets and hardware that sits idle between urgent cases. Teams are tied to a physical location, and when evidence must remain in a specific jurisdiction, procurement and shipping delays slow investigations down. Stratus replaces that model with forensic infrastructure that is provisioned on demand, runs in the customer's own AWS environment, and is managed by specialists who understand forensic workflows.

Faster time to capability: environments move from procurement to production in short order, and additional capacity can be added in minutes when a critical case arrives, without buying or shipping hardware.

Evidence control and jurisdiction: workstations and data run in the customer's own isolated AWS environment, in the Regions they select. WesDx never has access to case data, so chain of custody and data residency requirements remain with the customer.

Tool freedom: Stratus is vendor-agnostic infrastructure. Teams continue using the forensic software they already license rather than adopting a closed platform.

Cost aligned to caseload: spend moves from capital to operational expenditure. Real-time dashboards show burn rate, spend to date and projected costs, with per-case or per-team allocation, right-sizing recommendations, and idle detection that powers down unused workstations without interrupting active processing. In one published case study, Orbital Data Consulting migrated from Amazon WorkSpaces to Stratus in four weeks and reduced costs by 50%.

Performance for large cases: workloads can use volumes of up to 64 TB with high IOPS and throughput, and automated storage lifecycle management retains evidence cost-effectively as it ages.

Supports accreditation and audit: pre-configured, documented environments, consistent deployments, role-based access, full audit trails and session recording reduce the validation burden and simplify audits.

Remote and hybrid working: investigators connect securely through a browser from any location using the customer's existing identity provider and conditional access policies, and on-premises lab equipment can be connected via WireGuard VPN.

    Highlights

    • Your account, your data. Stratus deploys into AWS infrastructure you own and control. Data, logs and workloads never leave your environment, and there is no third-party custody chain to document or defend. You keep full visibility of every resource, retain your existing security controls and data residency position, and see all consumption on your own AWS bill.
    • Consistent, validated environments. Workstations and analysis environments are built from controlled images and deployed identically every time. Provision in minutes rather than weeks, scale for large or urgent workloads, and tear down cleanly on completion. Repeatable deployment supports method validation and accreditation, and eliminates the drift of manually built systems.
    • Extensible and supported. Optional plugins add managed VPN connectivity, EBS volume management and S3 storage management, with additional regions available as your operation grows. Stratus is delivered as a scoped deployment with hands-on onboarding and ongoing support, not a self-service install.
