You pay by the hour for the software running on an Amazon EC2 instance, with no upfront commitment. The single pricing variable is the EC2 instance type you select. Each listed dimension maps to a specific instance size and family, such as general purpose, compute optimized, memory optimized, storage, or GPU and accelerator types. Larger or more specialized instances carry a higher hourly rate. You choose the instance that fits your workload, and your cost scales with that choice and the hours you run. Billing stops when you stop the instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What am I paying for beyond the Amazon EC2 instance I select?
You pay an hourly software charge for the Jellyfin media server on Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS, plus vendor support from Askforcloud LLC. This runs on top of the underlying AWS infrastructure cost for the instance type you choose. Jellyfin itself is open-source media software.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when the instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. When you stop the instance, the software fee stops accruing. You may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for the stopped instance's disk, but those are separate from the Jellyfin software charge billed here.
How do I choose which instance type to run, and can I change it later?
Each listed dimension maps to one EC2 instance type across families like general purpose, compute optimized, memory optimized, storage, and GPU or accelerator types. Pick one that fits your media streaming load. You can stop the instance and relaunch on a different type; your hourly rate then follows the new choice.
