    Dimensions summary

The software itself is free, so you pay nothing for the license. Pricing is set entirely by the EC2 instance type you choose to run it on. Each dimension is billed per hour of use. The many options represent different instance sizes and families, spanning general purpose, compute, memory, storage, and accelerated computing. Smaller instances carry lower hourly rates; larger instances with more CPU, memory, or storage carry higher rates. You select the instance that fits your workload, and hourly charges scale with that hardware choice. There is no upfront commitment.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

The hourly rate covers running the machine image on the EC2 instance type you pick. The software itself is free, so charges reflect only the instance. Fully stopped instances stop accruing hourly software charges. You may still owe AWS storage fees for stored volumes while stopped.
You get the latest stable MariaDB release installed on your chosen Linux platform, with OS patches and a secured installation. The database is ready when the EC2 instance starts. Beyond running the secure-installation step, no configuration is done. The hourly charge does not include vendor setup or migration help.
Yes. You are billed per hour for the specific instance type running. Switching to a larger instance applies that instance's hourly rate for the time it runs. There is no tier that raises rates across other instances. Each running instance meters independently based on its own hardware size.
