Overview
MariaDB is an open-source, MySQL-compatible relational database (RDBMS) that works with any MySQL client. The underlying operating system of this AMI is updated with the latest patches, and the database installation is secured by running mysql_secure_installation. An EC2 instance spun up from this AMI is ready to be used with minimal or no additional configuration.

Smaller instances carry lower hourly rates; larger instances with more CPU, memory, or storage carry higher rates. You select the instance that fits your workload, and hourly charges scale with that hardware choice. There is no upfront commitment.

The hourly rate covers running the machine image on the EC2 instance type you pick. The software itself is free, so charges reflect only the instance. Fully stopped instances stop accruing hourly software charges. You may still owe AWS storage fees for stored volumes while stopped.

Beyond running the secure-installation step, no configuration is done. The hourly charge does not include vendor setup or migration help.

Usage instructions
- mysql_secure_installation script has been run already and the root user password has been set to the EC2 instance id.
- SSH into the EC2 instance as user specific to the operating system. For CentOS it is centos.
- Connect to the database as user root using EC2 node instance id as the password. Change password as needed.
