This product has charges associated with it for security hardening. Launch a pre-configured Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 EC2 instance that ships with Armorbytes hardened baseline.
This is a repackaged open source software product wherein charges are associated for hardening.
Armorbytes Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 image enforces Level 2 security controls that are compatible with the Center for Internet Security® (CIS) Benchmark. Armorbyte is not affiliated with or certified by CIS; the benchmark is referenced solely as an industry standard. Additional hardening disables unused daemons, enforces strong SSH policies, and schedules automated security updates.
The baseline maps to the NIST CSF, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, HIPAA, and other frameworks, giving teams a proven starting point toward compliance without the usual DIY effort.
Key features:
. Implements Level 2 controls compatible with the CIS Benchmark (not a certified CIS image).
. Continuous patching via dnf-automatic.
. SSH hardened: key-only auth & modern ciphers; stricter MACs.
. Kernel parameters tuned to reduce attack surface (sysctl).
. Cloud-init scripts to extend or roll back changes.
Why choose Armorbyte?
This hardened image map to many established standards and regulatory frameworks, including the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), the ISO 27000 series of standards, PCI DSS, HIPAA, and others.

See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for a hardened RHEL 8 server at the Level 2 Advanced hardening level. Pricing is tied to the EC2 instance type you choose, so there are no separate tiers or add-ons. The 50 options span several instance families: general-purpose (t2, t3, t3a, m5a, m3), compute-optimized (c5a), memory-optimized (r3, r5a), storage-optimized (i3, d3), and GPU (g2, g3, g3s, g5, p2, p3). Within each family, hourly rates rise as instance size grows, from nano and micro up through 8xlarge. You match the instance to your workload and hardware needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate cover, and what does the Level 2 Advanced hardening add?
The hourly rate covers a RHEL 8 server pre-hardened for compliance benchmarks like PCI DSS, HIPAA, NIST, and STIG. Level 2 Advanced applies stricter security controls for stringent regulatory environments. You skip manual configuration and deploy an audit-ready server directly.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
You pay the hourly software rate only while the instance runs. Fully stopped instances do not accrue software charges. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but the software license meters running hours only.
How do the GPU instance options differ from the standard compute options for billing?
GPU families (g2, g3, g3s, g5, p2, p3) add graphics or accelerated hardware and carry their own hourly rates. Non-GPU families like t2, t3, c5a, r5a, and i3 bill purely on CPU, memory, or storage specs. You pay for whichever instance you launch.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
