Overview

Product video
Commvault Cloud is an enterprise-grade platform built for unified cyber resilience across cloud-native, AI, and traditional datacenter applications to meet the demands of the hybrid enterprise in the face of ransomware and other cyber threats. Commvault Cloud unifies the best data security with the fastest recovery, advanced AI, and the power of a broad partner ecosystem to help the world's largest organizations reduce risk, minimize downtime, and keep business moving forward.
The Commvault Cloud Access Node (or Backup Gateway) is a specialized data mover or proxy that facilitates efficient, secure, and scalable backup/restore operations, especially in virtualized or cloud environments. It offloads data processing from source systems and ensures optimized data flow to backup storage. As access nodes, backup gateways connect with, discover, back up, and restore your data source (which the Commvault Cloud control panel cannot access directly). Note this is an infrastructure component of the Commvault software and requires an existing Commvault Cloud control plane to be used.
The Access Node software is free (covered under the BYOL Commvault software license) but you will pay the AWS infrastructure costs for running the virtual machine license) but you will pay the AWS infrastructure costs for running the virtual machine.
Highlights
- Integrates AWS Backup and Recovery within virtualized (cloud) or Commvault on-prem solutions which provides unified cyber resilience across cloud-native, AI, and traditional datacenter applications
- Agent-less backup of EC2 instances and EBS volumes; agent-based application backup and recovery from other platforms into AWS
- Efficient replication and source side deduplication built-in for cost optimization; writes directly to S3 or other storage libraries

Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Plans and CommandCenter delivered a clear, structured backup overview
The CommandCenter also really helped our users having a clearer and more focused overview of their backups and important settings without getting distracted by unimportant menus they don't need.
I am really looking forward on improvements also for administrators.
New deployments and configurations have different defaults than existing Commcells and we are always faced with new issues and optimization tasks which require intensive manual work (e.g. writing suitable API scripts) to adjust certain behaviour or performance characteristics.
There should be a comprehensive guide or report to optimize Commcell environments regardless of age and previous history.
In general Commvault just works and does not really need micomanagement like other backup solutions.
The reliability and flexibility really helps focusing on overall improvements of our environment without getting distracted by too many everyday task.
Commvault Cloud Makes Monitoring CommServe Status and Backups Easy
Robust and reliable data protection for enterprise workloads
Features like data immutability and built-in anomaly detection give us full confidence that our data is safe from ransomware and ready for recovery.
Furthermore, we highly appreciate the responsive technical support, which provides quick resolutions when needed, and the transparent pricing model that delivers excellent return on investment for an enterprise-grade platform.
We’d also like deeper visibility into individual backed-up assets and workloads directly from the main dashboard. In our experience, granular tracking of single entities can feel less intuitive than it used to, and it takes extra effort to track down to the details we need.
Finally, the built-in reporting could be stronger. We often need more detailed, ready-to-use compliance and infrastructure status reports without having to manually customize views just to get a clear, accurate picture of our environment.
Protecting backup data from cyber threats was another major concern for us. With features like data immutability and built-in anomaly detection, the platform helps keep our backups safe from encryption and lowers our potential recovery time and financial risk. On top of that, tracking data compliance across diverse workloads used to take a lot of time. Now, the platform supports strict SLA consistency and automated data protection policies, making audit preparation and internal reporting far more straightforward.
