Monitoring has become proactive and issues are resolved in real time with clear dashboard insights

    Reviewed on Sep 25, 2025
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for PRTG Network Monitor  is monitoring jobs.

A specific example of a job or system I monitor with PRTG Network Monitor  is the network devices we use to check the connectivity between the websites and the jobs that are running to keep them up and running.

    What is most valuable?

The best features PRTG Network Monitor offers that I find most helpful allow me to analyze and check the jobs and what is causing the issue and why it is happening. I actually found one critical job which we did not notice by ourselves, but this tool found it and helped us so that I got a good appreciation from my manager. This has been very useful for us to monitor these kinds of jobs.

PRTG Network Monitor helped me find that critical job through an alert which sends us reports on a weekly basis, and based on that, we found the failed job.

PRTG Network Monitor has a good dashboard that shows each and every piece of information, so we can easily find out what is happening with the systems. If anything is going down, I can easily identify and fix it immediately and make sure our systems are healthy.

PRTG Network Monitor has positively impacted my organization as we are not seeing any critical issues or major impacts for our applications, our servers, and our networks nowadays. Because of this monitoring dashboard, we can easily find out what's happening and fix everything on the fly. Before that, it was very difficult to check what happened and where the servers were impacted and which servers got impacted if any major disaster happened.

    What needs improvement?

I don't see any major issues with PRTG Network Monitor, but I want to mention that sometimes the error messages are too vague and don't directly tell me what went wrong. If they improve that feature, it will be beneficial for us.

There are no other improvements I think are needed for PRTG Network Monitor.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for more than five months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

PRTG Network Monitor is stable; as of now, there are no downtime or reliability issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

PRTG Network Monitor's scalability is very good; it can easily handle the growing needs or more devices we have in our organization as part of the project.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for PRTG Network Monitor is good; we are getting solutions on time, and they are very helpful.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use a different solution before PRTG Network Monitor. We used to monitor each and every server by ourselves, but now we are using PRTG Network Monitor.

    What was our ROI?

After introducing PRTG Network Monitor, we have saved time, and it's easy for everybody to monitor everything.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing is pretty vague because it's not from my end. It's the management who worked on the backend, so I really don't know the cost.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not evaluate other options before choosing PRTG Network Monitor; this is the one we chose.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others looking into using PRTG Network Monitor is that it is a very useful tool that saves your time and minimizes your efforts. We can make everything visible on one screen, and it can be monitored all in one place. If there are any issues with the systems or servers, they can be fixed on the fly. On a scale of one to ten, I rate PRTG Network Monitor a ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Has delivered accurate WAN capacity insights but needs better dashboard customization for complex data

    Reviewed on Sep 11, 2025
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use PRTG Network Monitor  for network monitoring, specifically monitoring the capacity of the WAN connections.

    What is most valuable?

PRTG Network Monitor  is perhaps the most accurate tool we have used to monitor the capacity of the WAN connection.

Real-time notifications in PRTG Network Monitor are effective in reducing response time; it's a very good product on this point.

The reporting capabilities in PRTG Network Monitor are good. Both built-in reporting and notification features are good for us, and we are utilizing these features, which are satisfying us.

    What needs improvement?

Customization is not the biggest advantage of PRTG Network Monitor, though it remains the most accurate tool.

Customization options are limited when creating a dashboard with specific needs.

The most significant disadvantage of PRTG Network Monitor is that the dashboard for NetFlow is not user-friendly at all.

The dashboard for NetFlow in PRTG Network Monitor presents data in a complex way, making it difficult to extract the information needed.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using PRTG Network Monitor for almost 10 years now. While I don't remember the exact start date, it has been a long time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

PRTG Network Monitor is a completely stable product. We haven't needed vendor support for the last three years, which demonstrates the product's stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

PRTG Network Monitor is easy to scale up and scale out, making it a scalable solution.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have not worked with similar tools for network monitoring; we have retired all other tools except PRTG Network Monitor.

    How was the initial setup?

The installation of PRTG Network Monitor is very easy.

    What was our ROI?

We see ROI with PRTG Network Monitor through indirect cost savings. It provides accurate data for utilization, allowing us to monitor and optimize our investments in WAN connection capacity.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

PRTG Network Monitor remains affordable until now.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I decided to stay with PRTG Network Monitor because Cisco Prime has been retired from the vendor and is no longer supported. There is no business need for WhatsUp since we don't require map monitoring anymore. Additionally, we are working with SD-WAN technology, which provides more monitoring capability within the solution itself, reducing the need for external tools.

What other advice do I have?

I am just a user of PRTG Network Monitor. On a scale of 1-10, I rate this solution a 7.

Monitoring technology enables swift setup and rapid network issue detection

    Reviewed on Aug 04, 2025
    Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I started as an administrator and was also part of installing the system at another company, so I have experience as both a customer and a consultant. I am a partial integrator of PRTG Network Monitor . I use an alerting system.

    What is most valuable?

The most advantageous aspect of PRTG Network Monitor  is that you can start quite fast because there are many sensors you can use, and it's ready to use. You can rapidly monitor all the network of the company because it has a discovery function that enables you to find numerous devices in your network and start working with it immediately by pushing one button.

I am satisfied with the alerting system because it has multiple options available. You can use email alerts or push notifications on your cell phone, as well as SMS short text messages on your cell phone, and they also have a desktop program where you can see alerts immediately.

PRTG Network Monitor is quite easy to install. You simply need to install the program on a Windows environment.

    What needs improvement?

PRTG Network Monitor definitely has room for improvement. They need to change their strategies because it has become relatively expensive compared to what it used to be. They previously had a perpetual model, which meant that you bought a license and if you missed the end of the time, it still worked; you just lost the possibility of some upgrades. Now it's a subscription model where you need to subscribe for at least three years, and it has become quite expensive, with a rise of more than 100%.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with PRTG Network Monitor technology for almost two years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

I am using the Auto-Discovery function of PRTG Network Monitor sometimes. It is quite effective, but it's just a good start. If you are trying to monitor some new environment or a new network, you can add a new network in your company and use the discovery function to find all the devices in the network and start resolving them afterward.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's stable if set up correctly because in the beginning there could be many alerts that are not very important, but if you set it up properly, it's really stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

PRTG Network Monitor is really scalable because you have one core server that typically requires one license, and you can install multiple probes. There are no limitations regarding the number of probes; you can install them in each network, even if they are not connected, and it works.

How are customer service and support?

They have good web pages with extensive information about the product and potential issues. I actually haven't had to contact them for support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have only experience with PRTG Network Monitor and have not used any competitors.

    How was the initial setup?

PRTG Network Monitor is quite easy to install. You simply need to install the program on a Windows environment.

    What was our ROI?

As a technician, I don't have specific ROI information. However, it is really helpful and definitely saves us money because we can find issues in our network before they become big problems.

What other advice do I have?

With PRTG Network Monitor, you can monitor devices such as servers, switches, routers, and other active units on the network. It's focused on monitoring computer networks and many other aspects.

My experience with PRTG Network Monitor is mainly in the network environment, including virtualization with VMware.

I am using mainly SNMP technology which offers some customizations, though it's quite limited. I have tried some script-based sensors, which have been quite helpful.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate PRTG Network Monitor an 8.
