You pay by the hour for running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 on AWS. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you launch. There are no tiers or plans to choose. Pricing scales with instance size and family: general-purpose (t, m), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r, x, z, u), storage-optimized (d, i, h), and accelerated computing (g, p, inf, trn, dl, vt). Larger sizes within a family cost more per hour. You pay only for the hours each instance runs, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover when I run RHEL 8?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you launch, billed per hour. The rate covers the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 software license on that instance. One instance running for one hour equals one billable hour, counted separately for each instance you start.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software rate meters running time only. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage fees may still apply to stopped instances, but those are separate from this listing's per-hour software charge.
If I switch to a larger instance type, how does my bill change?
You are billed at the hourly rate for whichever instance type is running. Moving to a larger size within a family raises the per-hour rate for the hours it runs. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance; there is no automatic upgrade.
