You pay by the hour for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 with support, billed per running instance. Pricing is not tiered. Instead, each rate maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type you choose to launch. The hundreds of options span instance families for general purpose, compute, memory, storage, GPU, and high-performance workloads. Each size carries its own hourly software rate. Larger instances with more CPU and memory carry proportionally higher rates. You add the AWS infrastructure cost separately. Software charges accrue only while an instance runs, so cost scales with your actual usage.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each hourly rate covers the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 software license plus vendor support for one running EC2 instance of that specific type. It does not include the AWS compute, storage, or network charges. Those come from AWS separately and appear on the same bill.
Software charges accrue only while an instance runs. A stopped or paused instance stops the hourly software meter. You may still pay AWS for attached storage, such as an EBS volume, but the RHEL 9 software and support charge meters running time only.
There are no usage tiers. The rate is tied to the exact EC2 instance type you launch. If you switch to a larger size, the new instance carries its own hourly rate. Changing instance type changes the rate immediately, based on the type running at that hour.

Info regarding virtual machines The operating system does not save any sensitive information for the customers. The customer is responsible for saving any information, sensitive or not. The data saved on the volumes is not encrypted by default. All instance authentication must use key pair access, not password-based authentication. AMIs does not contain passwords, authentication keys, key pairs, security keys, or other credentials. PasswordAuthentication is set to NO in sshd_config. The application does not make use of any encryption techniques.
Troubleshooting Navigate to your Amazon EC2 console and verify that you're in the correct region. Choose Instance and select your launched instance. Select the server to display your metadata page and choose the Status checks tab at the bottom of the page to review if your status checks passed or failed.
