SMART Operations

SMART Operations (OPS) is an AI-driven, edge-deployed, and customisable real-time video analytics solution for continuous risk and operational monitoring of all road users at a variety of transport network locations. SMART OPS provides transport network system operators with actionable feedback in milliseconds on hard-to-detect high risk and abnormal network conditions. In addition, SMART OPS can be used to mitigate risks and optimize traffic flows by communicating with traffic signals, variable message signs, traffic management centers, and connected vehicles. The development of the SMART platform solution—including OPS—is driven by Smart Cities targeting "Vision Zero" .

Designed to continuously measure and record crash risk potential and travel efficiency  of all road users, OPS can be configured to generate alerts for either immediate or subsequent traffic management actions. Continuous monitoring and generating alerts are the cornerstone functions of the OPS product. OPS users are able to track trends and events involving road users (light and heavy vehicles, active travelers , etc), catalog subsequent actions taken, generate and share summary reports, and program OPS to communicate through APIs to other digital and physical infrastructure. Data and insights are shown on the platform through a variety of interactive and filterable dashboards, and can be delivered directly to third-party systems.

The AI and analytics within OPS can be used to monitor road user flows, speeds, crash risk  (conflicts by type including rear-end, pedestrian-involved, etc.) and violations (aggressive speeding, pedestrian spatial violations, wrong-way driving , etc.). OPS can also be configured to support the following:

• Real-Time Detection Presence - Detection zones can be configured to provide presence monitoring and alerting
• Traffic Signal Integration  - Receiving Signal Phase and Timing (SPaT) data within an ITS environment for scenario management such as red-light running and signal optimization
• External Systems Integration - Communication with message signs (DMS, VMS), Traffic Manage Centers or third-party platforms via REST API

The OPS application architecture is hosted in the AWS ecosystem, with real-time analytics delivered using edge computing powered by AWS Panorama and higher latency analytics stored in the AWS cloud.
