The Debian 12 image has been professionally hardened by the team at Hardened Images, following the Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) - the widely recognized benchmark for secure system configuration. These standards are trusted by government agencies, enterprises, and academic institutions alike, serving as a powerful foundation for meeting modern cybersecurity and compliance requirements.
Built for IT administrators, security engineers, auditors, support staff, and deployment teams, this image simplifies the process of developing, securing, and scaling applications on Linux-based systems. It accelerates your deployment pipeline while maintaining a high-security posture.
By launching a Hardened Images AMI, you reduce operational overhead, cut implementation costs, and mitigate risk - all while deploying faster with confidence.
As a trusted partner to small and mid-sized businesses, Hardened Images helps you establish a secure cloud footprint from day one. We specialize in delivering hardened virtual machines so you can focus on building, knowing your infrastructure is locked down from the start.

AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for a hardened Debian 12 image running on ARM-based Amazon EC2 instances. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you launch. Options span many instance families: general-purpose (t4g, m-series, a1), compute-optimized (c-series), memory-optimized (r-series, x-series), storage-optimized (i-series, im4gn, is4gen), high-performance computing (hpc7g), and graphics (g5g). Sizes range from nano and medium up to metal and 48xlarge. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or storage carry higher hourly rates. You are billed only for hours used, with no term commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate cover, and what does it not include?
The rate covers the hardened Debian 12 software license for the ARM-based EC2 instance you launch. You pay for each hour the instance runs. Standard AWS infrastructure charges for compute, storage, and data transfer are billed separately by AWS and are not part of this rate.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. When you stop an instance, the software charge stops accruing. Underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes may continue while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from this listing's hourly rate.
Can I switch to a different instance type later, and how does that change my bill?
Yes. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type. If you launch a different instance type, you are billed at that type's hourly rate for the hours it runs. There is no term commitment, so you can move between instance sizes as your needs change.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
